In addition to her 23-point night, Thompson led the Orange and Brown with eight rebounds. She also had a pair of steals.
The BG bench outscored their Western counterparts, 41-10, on the night. Sophomore Morgan McMillen came off of the bench to score eight points, with senior Clare Glowniak and freshman Olivia Trice adding five apiece. That trio combined to go 7-of-11 from the field.
The Falcons held Western without an offensive rebound in the first half, but Mobley grabbed five offensive boards in the second half, turning them into eight second-chance points.
WMU led by just four points at the half, but Mobley had 18 points and 12 boards in the final 20 minutes as the Broncos gradually increased the lead.
QUOTING COACH FRALICK
"We had a tough start. Our bench came in and did a really good job, but in the second half, second shots and free throws hurt us. We've got to clean that up and keep focusing on the process of getting better."
FIRST QUARTER
• The Broncos took a quick 6-0 lead on back-to-back three-pointers, and a free throw made it a seven-point run.
• Thompson came off the bench and hit a pull-up jumper, but two more Bronco buckets put BG in arrears by an 11-2 score. But, the fourth-year Falcon took a pass from junior Madisen Parker and hit a three-pointer, and moments later, Thompson hit a nifty layup after a long pass by sophomore Kadie Hempfling. BG trailed, 13-7, at the evening's first media timeout.
• The Broncos were 5-of-6 from the field at that point, but Western would go just 2-for-9 over the remainder of the quarter. McMillen took a Thompson pass and hit a three-pointer, and in the final seconds of the period, junior Angela Perry's three-point play got BG within four points, 17-13.
SECOND QUARTER
• In the early minutes of the second quarter, the Western lead fluctuated between four and six points, but a three-pointer by Sydney Shafer gave the hosts a 26-17 lead, and Walker's layup extended the margin into double digits for the first time.
• The Falcons, however, responded with a 10-0 run to get within a single point. Thompson began that run with a pull-up jumper, and Trice scored five-straight points. First, she took a Parker pass for a transition three. Then, McMillen found Trice for a layup to put BG within four.
• When Thompson's pass resulted in a deep three by McMillen, the Falcons trailed by just one point, 28-27, and the home team used a timeout with 1:47 left in the period.
• Another Shafer three ended BGSU's run, and after Thompson knocked down a pair of free throws, Leighah-Amori Wool threw in a shot just before the halftime horn, giving WMU a 33-29 lead.
THIRD QUARTER
• Foul trouble began to plague the Falcons, as BG was whistled for five fouls in the first 3:17 of the quarter. Perry and Hempfling each were assessed their third foul of the game during that stretch.
• Mobley scored the first four points of the period, before McMillen's mid-range jumper got BG within six. But, Bailey's triple made it a 40-31 game. Thompson responded, taking a pass from junior Mari Hill and knocking down a long-range shot, but Mobley scored six of the game's next eight points, including four at the free-throw line. The redshirt senior capped that run with a driving layup that gave her team a 48-34 lead.
• Thompson hit a three-ball after Hill's 'extra pass', and the fourth-year Falcon then converted a nifty floater as part of a three-point play. BG was within 10, but the Broncos scored the next four points, with two more Mobley tosses making it a 54-40 game.
• Glowniak's 'and-one' bucket and the ensuing free throw cut the Broncos' lead to 11 points after three quarters.
FOURTH QUARTER
• Glowniak began the fourth period with another bucket, cutting the Falcons' deficit into single digits, and freshman Elissa Brett's driving banker made it an eight-point game, at 55-47. But, Mobley answered with a jumper, and after the teams went over two minutes without a point, Wool's triple extended the Bronco lead to 13 points with 5:25 to go. After a BG shot rimmed out, Mobley's putback gave Western a 62-47 lead.
• BG got back within 11 as Thompson hit another triple and Brett drove and scored, but the Falcons would get no closer.
UP NEXT
• The Falcons begin a three-game homestand this weekend. The Falcons host Buffalo on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 22), with tipoff set for 1:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
• Next week, the Orange and Brown will wrap up the February portion of the schedule by hosting Ohio (Feb. 26) and Kent State (Feb. 29).
