Historic Performances Pace Falcons At Day Three Of MAC Championships

Buffalo, N.Y. – The Bowling Green State University swim and dive team put together a string of historic performances on the third day of the 2020 MAC Championships. Daisy Platts and Sarah Hennings each broke school records, with Taylor Harris placing among the top ten in school history. Platts won the 100-yard backstroke in a blistering 52.87 seconds, the fastest time in program history. This was the second MAC title of the sophomore's career and the second school record she has broken this weekend, the other being the 200-yard individual medley. Hennings tied for third in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing with a program-record time of 53.91.
Harris finished 16th in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming the program's ninth-fastest time at 1:04.13. The freshman's preliminary time of 1:03.65 ranks seventh in school history. Platts, Harris, and Hennings were joined by Anna Eriksson in the 400-yard medley relay, earning their second relay medal of the weekend. The quartet finished third at 3:41.19, just 0.3 seconds short of the school record. Additionally, Platts set the pool record with her 100-yard backstroke performance.
Kylie Mosset scored 261.45 on the 3 meter board to earn another tenth place finish, her second of the weekend. In the prelims, Talisa Lemke scored a session-high 333.78 to advance to tomorrow night's finals. Lauren Sullivan also added consolation points for the Falcons, swimming a season-best 55.35 in the 100-yard backstroke. This is the second consecutive year the junior has placed in the MAC's top ten in the 100 backstroke.
Platts and Hennings also raced at historic paces in the preliminary session. Platts finished the 100 backstroke at 53.27, which ranks third in school history. Hennings touched the wall at 54.63 in the 100 butterfly, also ranking third in school history. Entering the final day of competition, the Falcons have accumulated 203 points. They are currently in sixth place, just 2.5 points out of fifth place.
Tonight's Finalist Performances
After winning medals in four events at the 2019 MAC Championships, the Falcons have already claimed medals at six events this year. Individually, Daisy Platts leads the way with two medals. Sarah Hennings and Talisa Lemke each have one medal, with Lemke getting an opportunity to win another at tomorrow night's 3 meter dive finals. The final two medals belong to the relay team of Platts, Harris, Hennings, and Eriksson. The quartet has placed third in both medley relays.

The final day of the 2020 MAC Championships will begin at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow. The morning session will feature preliminary heats of the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, and 200 butterfly. Beginning at 4:10 p.m., preliminary heats of the 1650 freestyle will be raced. The final preliminary heat is scheduled to end 5:30 p.m. The championship heat of the 1650 freestyle is slated for a 6:40 p.m. start. Following that race, consolation and championship heats of the morning events will be raced. Following the 200 butterfly championship heat, the finals of the 3 meter dive will begin. The final event of the MAC Championships will be the 400 freestyle relay, which will feature a single championship heat. Following the action, there will be a championship awards ceremony.
