Bowling Green Places Third at Magnus Cup Invite

CLEVELAND — Bowling Green opened the final day of the Magnus Cup Invitational with a dominant performance on the boards, then carried that momentum into a full slate of evening swims to close the meet in third place with 1,128.5 points in a nine-team field.
The Falcons set the tone in the team dive event this afternoon, sweeping the top two spots. BGSU's A-team secured the win with 288.90 points, followed by the B-team in second at 265.70, giving the Falcons an early boost in the standings and reinforcing their diving success throughout the weekend.
In the pool, competition began with the 100 IM, where Samia Becdach opened the session with a fourth-place finish in 57.00, a personal best and qualifier for the CSCAA NIC A cut. Bridget Kurtzweil followed in sixth at 58.30, also a personal best. Meanwhile, Grace Bodrock (59.39) and Madison Bond (1:00.55) added scoring points from the B-final.
Sophomore Annie Berrow notched eight points in the 50 butterfly, placing 13th overall with a personal best 25.73 earning key points from the B-final.
The Falcons' strongest swim of the night came in the 200 backstroke. Senior Emily McNicol earned her second win of the weekend in 2:00.15, cracking top 10 all-time for BGSU in that event. Freshman Alex Johnson placed ninth in 2:05.51, and Bowling Green loaded up the B-final with four scorers: Kurtzweil (2:01.66), Morgan Sokol (2:04.67), Ashley Fryer (2:09.02) and Bella Treib (2:09.03).
Becdach returned for her second top eight finish in the 100 free, placing seventh in 51.01. Berrow (52.58) and Sierra Newton (52.67) each notched season bests from the B-final to tally more points for the Falcons.
In the 200 breaststroke, Lauren Jablonski posted a seventh-place finish in 2:21.17, continuing her productive weekend. Bond added her second individual scoring swim, taking 16th in 2:24.61 from the B-final.
Bodrock delivered a podium in the 200 butterfly, placing third with 2:02.81. Johnson closed her night with a 16th-place finish in 2:09.55.
Bowling Green wrapped up the three-day meet with three scoring entries in the 400 free relay. Becdach, Newton, Berrow and Bodrock placed seventh in 3:27.65, while relay groups of Taylor Devorace, McNicol, Treib, and Corine Rieskamp (12th, 3:31.92) and Jablonski, Bond, Alyse Sorg and Ashley Fryer (18th, 3:38.44) closed out the weekend's racing with additional points, contributing to the Falcons' overall third-place finish.
Bowling Green will travel east again for the Zippy Invitational on Dec. 4-7.
