Bowling Green Advances To Tournament Championship With Win Over Milwaukee

NORMAL, Ill. – The Bowling Green State University tennis program returned to their winning ways on Saturday (Feb. 29) besting Milwaukee in a 4-2 final score. The Falcons began down with the Panthers taking the doubles point, but stormed back to claim four of the six available singles points. No. 3 singles went down as unfinished, resulting in a 4-2 final. The win puts the Falcons above the .500 mark on the season with a 4-3 record. Bowling Green will take on Illinois State on Sunday (March 1) at 12:30 p.m. for the tournament championship.

Making Of The Match
- To begin in doubles, Kapitanova and Tsadari were able to capture a 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles, but Milwaukee came away with the doubles point to begin up 1-0.
- In singles play, the day began for the Falcons with Silveira picking up her first singles win of the year, topping her opponent in straight sets to give Bowling Green their first point of the day.
- Sasaki was the next one to conclude on the court, also winning in straight sets. In the first set, she needed extra points to claim a 7-5 win, but that momentum rolled into a 6-2 second set win to put the Falcons up 2-1.
- The lead continued to stretch for Bowling Green with Bettinelli claiming a singles win as well, this one going three sets. After falling in the first set, Bettinelli battled back to win the second set before dominating the third to clinch the third point of the day for the Orange and Brown.
- The Panthers didn't go quietly, taking the No. 2 singles point before the Falcons closed the door with their fourth singles win to clinch the day. Tavpash was the one to clinch the match. After taking the first set, UWM forced a third set, in which Tavpash was able to take the victory for the Falcons.
Moving In The Record Book
- In singles, Sasaki captured career win No. 51, giving her sole possession of 28th all-time. Tavpash and Sasaki are now back-to-back in the record book for singles wins in a career with 54 and 51, respectively.
- With a singles win as well, Tavpash moved up the combined wins list all-time, now with 128 career wins. She is now tied with Stefanie Menoff (2006-09) at 19th all-time.

- "We showed a lot of heart and persistence today in every single court to come back from losing the doubles point. At the end, we did what we do best, we fought our hearts out and I'm proud of them for that."
Up Next
- The weekend of matches will continue on March 1 for the Falcons as they continue play at the Illinois State Invitational. The Falcons will face host Illinois State at 12:30 p.m. for the tournament championship.
- As for the home schedule, the Orange and Brown will be back on the home courts on March 6 to host Indiana Tech for a 2 p.m. first serve.
