February 06, 2020 | Men's Golf
Falcons set to start second half of season with first of seven total tournaments.
Dade City, Fla. – The BGSU men's Golf team will open its spring schedule Feb. 11 when they travel to Dade City, Florida to compete in the Earl Yestingsmeier match play (hosted by Ball State).
Bowling Green won the event, formally known as the Mid-American Match Play, in 2013. Bowling Green also finished runner up last year to Miami.
On the fall campaign, BG finished in fourth place in is opening tournament, the Raising Canes Invitational, hosted by Eastern Kentucky University. Â The Falcons then finished as co-runner ups at the Firestone Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron. Bowling Green was just one stroke back from finishing as co-champions. The Falcons placed three inside the top ten on the individual leaderboard -- Nick Hofland, Rodrigue Vie and Tom North.
The Orange and Brown then followed up that finish with the first program win since 2017 at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational. Â The Falcons shot a team score of 837 (-15) and were just five strokes shy of tying the program record for a 54-hole tournament. There were three Falcons in the top five in Vie, North and Ward Kyle. Rodrigue Vie finished first among 78 golfers in the individual ranks, which marks the first individual win for BGSU men's golf since 2015. Vie's score was just three strokes behind the program record at 202, which was set by Jose Narro in 2015.
Since taking over as head coach, John Powers has had five finishes during the fall season inside of fourth place. The team win at the Tom Tontimonia is the best finish under Powers since he took over the job.
