Gottshall named MAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time; Dees is MAC Player of the Week
The Bowling Green State University softball team has swept the Mid-American Conference weekly awards. Redshirt sophomore Sammy Dees has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday morning (March 10), while freshman Payton Gottshall is the MAC Pitcher of the Week.
Gottshall earns the league pitcher-of-the-week honor for the second time this season, while Dees has been named conference player of the week for the first time in her Falcon career.
Dees, a native of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., had an incredible weekend as the Falcons went 5-0 in at the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational. Dees hit .667 (12-for-18) in the five games in Florida, with an on-base percentage of .700 and a slugging pct. of .944. She came to the plate a total of 20 times over the weekend, and reached base in 17 of those 20 plate appearances. Dees had at least one hit in every game, with three three-hit games and a two-hit contest.
On Friday (March 6), she was a combined 5-for-6 with a walk in wins over Providence and Penn State. On Saturday, Dees reached base in all four plate appearances against Army, going 3-for-3 with a walk. She singled to begin the Chattanooga game. With that hit, she had reached base in eight-straight appearances (7-for-7 with a walk) and 11 of 12 trips to the plate. Dees also reached base in her next at-bat, via a throwing error, before the Mocs finally retired her.
Then, on Sunday, for the third time in five games, Dees reached base in every plate appearance. She homered, singled twice and also reached base on a pair of errors in a 10-3 win over Seton Hall. On the year, Dees is hitting .474 with a .565 OBP and a .684 slugging pct.

Then, that evening, she threw a complete-game five-hit shutout vs. Penn State, striking out five.
The next day, Gottshall entered the game with one outs in the top of the first, the bases loaded and BG trailing, 2-0. She returned to the circle that night to pick up the win in relief vs. Chattanooga, whiffing eight. On Sunday, she picked up a complete-game win over Seton Hall.
