Wolfbauer's PK lifts BGSU to 1-0 road victory
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Madi Wolfbauer's walk-off penalty kick lifted the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Central Michigan University on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 17). The Mid-American Conference overtime match was held at the CMU Soccer Complex.
The win was the fifth-straight victory for the Falcons (7-5-3, 6-1-1 MAC), who remain tied for second place in the conference standings. Lili Berg made four saves to earn her second consecutive shutout and her fifth clean sheet in eight MAC matches.
The winning goal came when pressure by Ruby Linton led to a turnover in the Chippewas' (7-7-0, 4-4-0 MAC) defensive end of the field. Nikki Cox ran onto the ball and played a pass to Linton. Linton took the ball into the penalty box on the left side, and was tripped as she looked to cut the ball back. A PK was awarded, and Wolfbauer made no mistake, blasting her shot into the corner of the net.
Cox hit the crossbar with a shot in the fourth minute of the match.
Wolfbauer has scored at least one goal in all five contests during BGSU's current winning streak, tying the school record for most consecutive matches with a goal.
Allison LaPoint made two saves for the Chippewas.
Through Sunday's matches, BGSU remains tied for second place with Kent State in the MAC standings. Both the Falcons and Golden Flashes have 19 points, trailing league-leading Ohio by a single point.
NOTE OF THE DAY
• Madi Wolfbauer now has five game-winning goals this season, the second-highest total in school history. BGSU Hall-of-Famer Kristy Coppes had six winners in 2004.

"The ladies battled really hard on a windy day in Michigan. We started the game brightly, and looked very good for the first 20 minutes. Central came into it and did a nice job of disrupting our rhythm, causing us problems. We defended really well as a team again today, and created a great chance in overtime when Ruby beat her player 1v1 in the box and was fouled for the penalty. And, it was a great finish from Madi to win the game. We were not at our best today, and hats off to CMU. They were very good! But, we worked hard and found a way to win, which is the sign of a good team!" -- head coach Jimmy Walker
