Shea & Wolfbauer score as Falcons are victorious in rematch of 2020(-21) MAC Championship
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team scored in each half, posting an impressive 2-0 win at Ball State University on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 7). The Mid-American Conference match was held at Briner Sports Complex.
Audrey Shea and Madi Wolfbauer scored for the Falcons (4-5-3, 3-1-1 MAC), who have won four consecutive conference road matches dating to last season.
The Cardinals (4-6-1, 2-2-1 MAC) had a 15-8 lead in shots, but Lili Berg and the BGSU defense stood tall. Berg made five saves on the day, picking up her third shutout in five MAC matches this season to date.
The game was a rematch of the 2020(-21) MAC Championship match, won by the Orange and Brown at Cochrane Stadium in April.
Thursday's BGSU victory was the 150th win of BGSU coach Jimmy Walker's collegiate head-coaching career.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• 3' | The Cardinals appeared to have a good scoring chance in the early going, but Audrey Shea stripped the ball away from a BSU forward in the penalty area before she could get a shot off.
• 15' | GOAL | The Falcons won a corner kick, as Kennedy White forced the Cards to put the ball over their own end line after a long ball forward by Shea. Jasmijn Dijsselhof took that corner kick and floated the ball toward the far post, where Shea headed it home.
• 21' | After a BSU turnover near the center line, Madi Wolfbauer blasted a shot from a long way away. The ball went just wide of the left post.
• 28' | Nikki Cox played a nifty through ball to White, who slid a right-side cross into the penalty area, but a BSU defender knocked it away just before Ruby Linton could get to it.
• 32' | White made a long run and hit a cross in the direction of Wolfbauer. Wolfbauer laid the ball off for Nikki Cox, but Cox's shot from just outside the 18-yard box was hit directly at Ball State goalkeeper Alex DeRuvo.
• 35' | As the clock ticked under the 10-minute mark, Emily Simmons made a long run for the hosts and hit a shot toward the right side of the net, but Lili Berg made a diving stop.
• 44' | A BSU corner kick was deflected toward the far post, where Simmons headed it back across. But, Berg grabbed the ball out of the air near the other goalpost.
• 47' | A giveaway led to a BG chance, as Linton received an errant pass and quickly slid the ball to Katie Cox. Cox turned and fired, but her shot whizzed just over the crossbar.
• 52' | Melissa Diceman hit a shot that was blocked by Rachel Muller. But, the shot caromed off of the crossbar, and Tatiana Mason's follow try was blocked out for a corner kick.
• 58' | A Dijsselhof free kick sailed toward the far post, where Linton's one-time shot went just wide.
• 59' | GOAL | Wolfbauer played a long ball forward to Linton on the left side of the field. Linton hit a cross that sailed over a BSU defender and through the six-yard box. White ran onto it on the far side of the goal, near the end line, and chipped the ball back into the path of the onrushing Wolfbauer. Wolfbauer leaned forward just slightly to head the ball into the right side of the net and double the BGSU lead.
• 61' | Linton was fouled just outside the penalty area on the left side, and a Nikki Cox free kick glanced off of the crossbar.
• 72' | Lacee Bethea raced past a would-be defender and found Wolfbauer with a pass. Wolfbauer quickly tapped the ball into the path of Nikki Cox for a shot, but that effort went just wide.
• 74' | The Cardinals fired several shots, trying to cut into their two-goal deficit. But, Berg made a save on one of those efforts over the next few minutes, and a pair of other shots were off the mark.
• 82' | A long cross/shot by Diceman was grabbed out of the air by a leaping Berg, and the Falcons would not allow another shot attempt.
