Falcons Prepare For Magnus Cup In Cleveland
November 16, 2021 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team will travel to Cleveland, Ohio this week to compete in the Magnus Cup. The meet will begin on Thursday, November 18 and go through Saturday, November 20.
In addition, the diving team will take part in the West Virginia Invitational in Morgantown, West Virginia this weekend. The meet also runs from Thursday, November 18 to Saturday, November 20.Â
Looking Back at Last Year
The Falcons will be competing in their second Magnus Cup, and first since 2019. In their last appearance, the Falcons took fourth place out of 13. Daisy Platts led the way for the Falcons with four individual first place finishes across the meet, along with taking part in two first-place winning relay teams. Anna Eriksson also swam on those winning relay teams and added four top-10 finishes of her own.
This is the first time the Falcons have competed in the West Virginia Invitational. This is also the first time the swimming and diving team has faced off against West Virginia.
Falcons to Watch
The Falcons are hoping that Platts can recapture her 2019 Magnus Cup magic and lead the way for the Falcons. Freshman Elayna Krupp has put together two strong performances to start her collegiate career and is looking to take the next step. She claimed her first collegiate victory last meet against Eastern Michigan in the 50 freestyle and has finished in the top three of all of her individual events this season. In addition, veteran swimmers like Eriksson, Taylor Harris and Kellie House have performed well across the season and can take a step forward in the Magnus Cup.
On the diving side, Grace Ellis will look to build on two top-three finishes, including a victory, in the 1-meter dive. Zoe Smith has been the team's most consistent diver this season across both the 1-meter and 3-meter, and a strong performance would greatly help the Falcons.
Minding the Magnus
The Falcons are one of 12 teams competing in the Magnus Cup. The meet includes the host school, Cleveland State, as well as two MAC opponents: Akron and Ohio. Other teams competing are California University of Pennsylvania, Duquesne, Case Western University, Fairmont State, Gannon University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, West Virginia Tech and Xavier University.
