CLEVELAND, Ohio – Bowling Green State University women's soccer standout Madi Wolfbauer has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year. The All-MAC Team and specialty-award winners were announced on Thursday morning (Nov. 4) by the league office.
Nikki Cox and Audrey Shea joined Wolfbauer on the All-MAC First Team, while Lili Berg was named to the all-league second team.
With three first-team members and four overall selections to the team, BGSU tied Ohio for the highest totals in the league in both categories.
Cox and Shea each earn all-conference accolades for the third-straight season, while Wolfbauer and Berg each have been named to the all-league team for the second time in as many seasons.
Cox is the first three-time All-MAC First-Team selection in BGSU women's soccer history. She also earned all-conference first-team accolades in the 2019 and 2020(-21) campaigns.
Shea was named to the All-MAC Second Team in both 2019 and '20(-21) before earning first-team accolades this fall.
Wolfbauer has been an all-conference first-team selection in both of her playing seasons with the Falcons.
Berg, like Wolfbauer, has earned all-league honors in both seasons that she has suited up for BG. She was also a second-team choice in 2020(-21).
Wolfbauer is the fourth Falcon in the last five seasons to be named MAC Offensive Player of the Year. She joins Skylar Fleak (2017), Erica Hubert (2018) and Chelsee Washington (2019) on that list.
Wolfbauer, a native of Canton, Mich., has 10 goals and 21 points to pace BGSU in both categories, and she recently tied the school record by scoring at least one goal in five consecutive matches. She had 14 points on seven goals in MAC games, and she led the league in goals, points, goals per game (0.64), points per game (1.27), shots (44) and shots per game (4.00) in conference contests. Wolfbauer has five game-winning goals this season, just one shy of the school record. She has 15 goals and 31 points in just 26 career matches at BGSU.
Cox, a native of Granville, Ohio, has registered 17 points this fall. She leads the Falcons with seven assists, and is second in points and tied for second in goals (five). Cox has scored the GWG in each of BGSU's last two matches, including the overtime winner in last Thursday's victory over Toledo. In conference matches, Cox had nine points on three goals and three assists. She ranked sixth in both shots (32) and shots per game (2.91) against MAC foes, and was tied for fourth in assists and assists per contest (0.27). She tied for sixth in the league in both points and points per game (0.82) and deadlocked for eighth in goals. BGSU's active career scoring leader, she has 63 points on 23 goals and 17 assists in 70 matches as a Falcon, and ranks eighth or higher on all three BG career lists.
Shea, a native of Upper Arlington, Ohio, has anchored the Falcons' defense again this season. She has started every match, and has played 1,679 of the team's 1,692 total minutes this fall. After coming off the field for the last six minutes of the regular-season opener back on August 19, Shea played every second of the next 15 matches before leaving the Akron match (Oct. 24) with the Falcons ahead by a 3-0 score. She has started 48 of BGSU's 49 matches since her arrival on campus (missing one match due to injury), and has helped the Falcons record 20 shutouts in that time, including 17 clean sheets vs. MAC opposition. At the other end of the pitch, she is fourth on the team in scoring this fall, with eight points on three goals and a pair of assists.
Â
Berg, who hails from New Berlin, Wis., has 71 saves, six complete-match shutouts and a goals-against average of 1.05 this season. In MAC matches, she had a GAA of just 0.54, ranking second in the league, and she tied for first in shutouts (six) and shutouts per game (0.55) while ranking second in saves percentage (.864). This season, the Falcons tied for the league lead with seven clean sheets in the 11 MAC games. Berg has been a part of 14 shutouts in her 26 career starts as a Falcon. She has 10 complete-match clean sheets, and has played at least 62 minutes in four other shutouts, being subbed out of each of those four matches with BG ahead by at least two goals. Berg has a career GAA of just 0.85, and has helped BGSUÂ post 12 shutouts in 18 contests vs. MAC teams since her arrival in Northwest Ohio.
BGSU has an overall record of 9-6-3, and the Falcons went 8-2-1 in MAC play to win the league's regular-season title yet again. The Falcons, the top seed for the MAC Tournament, will face fourth-seeded Buffalo today (Thursday, Nov. 4) at 4:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium.
The BGSU-UB survivor will advance to Sunday's (Nov. 7) league tourney championship match, which will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Cochrane. The complete list of all-conference team members and specialty-award winners can be found below...
