Huger Wins 100th Game & Turner Nets 2,000th Point In BGSU’s Victory At Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team cruised to its second-straight victory on Tuesday (Feb. 16) night, as the Falcons defeated the Ball State Cardinals by a score of 75-62. On the night, Michael Huger became the first BGSU graduate to win 100 games as head coach. Fifth-year senior Justin Turner led the Falcons with 27 points and become the 17th player in Mid-American Conference history to score 2,000 career points.
After trailing by one at the half, the Falcons completely turned the game around over the final 20 minutes, leading by as many as 16 points with 4:48 left in regulation. BGSU did not allow Ball State to shoot a free throw in the second half, while also holding the Cardinals to a 1-for-12 clip (8.3 percent) from downtown in the second stanza.
Bowling Green's starting guards combined for 51 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists. Along with Turner's big night, freshman guard Kaden Metheny scored a career-high 21 points. Junior guard Caleb Fields pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds.
Senior forward Daeqwon Plowden registered 11 points, four rebounds and four blocks. Fellow senior Trey Diggs added seven points and five rebounds, while freshman wing Josiah Fulcher contributed with four points and seven rebounds.

Almost a year ago to the date – on Feb. 15, 2020 – Turned led the Falcons to a 77-71 win with 33 points, six assists and six rebounds. In those two contests, Turner went a combined 21-for-36 (58.3 percent) from the floor.
• Freshman guard Kaden Metheny had a career night, posting his first 20-plus point game. Metheny finished with 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting. His seven made field goals established a career high. • With his four rebounds, senior forward Daeqwon Plowden surpassed Scott Thomas (2008-12 | 680) for 12th place on Bowling Green's all-time rebounding list. Plowden has grabbed 683 rebounds as a Falcon. With 11 more rebounds, he'll pass up Skip Howard (1973-75 | 693).
• Plowden scored in double figures for the 53rd time in his career, finishing with 11 points. Plowden now ranks 44th in scoring at BGSU with 1,059 points. He surpassed Bill Faine (1980-84 | 1,055) on the evening on BGSU's all-time scoring list. The reigning MAC Player of the Week also had four rebounds and tied a career high with four blocks. Plowden's only other four-block game in his career came on Feb. 26, 2019 at Miami of Ohio.
