FULL GAME NOTES
Falcons Clinch MAC TitleÂ
The Falcons picked up back-to-back wins this past weekend over Akron to clinch the MAC Regular Season Championship for the third time in the last four seasons, doing so with three matches left to play. With the two wins, the Falcons moved to 18-0 on the year, giving them the top seed in the MAC Tournament and hosting rights for the tournament as well. The 18-0 standing continues the best start in the history of BGSU Athletics while now also being the longest win streak in the history of the volleyball program, surpassing the 17-match streak by the 2006 team.Â
Battle Of I-75: Part IIÂ Â
Having just played the first match in the Battle of I-75 last Tuesday, the Falcons were able to pick up a 3-1 victory at Savage Arena. In the match, the Falcons saw a team effort lead to the win, including 15 total team blocks. The Falcons claimed wins in the first two sets before the Rockets forced a fourth, in which BGSU clinched the win. Since facing the Falcons, the Rockets lost to Ohio in Athens before sweeping Buffalo at home. The match against Ohio went five sets, as did the first against Buffalo whereas the second was only four sets.Â
For The First Time Since … Â
For the first time since 2018 the Falcons are the MAC Regular Season Champions. With the sweep over Akron, Bowling Green clinched the outright MAC Championship, being the program's third in the last four seasons after splitting with Miami in both 2017 and 2018. The mark also clinches the top spot in the MAC Tournament for the Falcons and gives them hosting rights this season for the tournament, which is set to take place on April 2 and 3.
Another New RecordÂ
Reaching 18 wins, the Falcons added another record to this season's resume, setting the record for most consecutive wins in program history. The record was previously set at 17 wins by the 2006 team. In doing so, the Falcons have now set the record for most wins to begin a season and most consecutive wins in the program's record book.Â
And Then There Were TwoÂ
With Kentucky receiving their first loss this past weekend, the Falcons are now just one of two teams left in country that are 18-0 or better, being joined by 20-0 Texas. In total, there are just 12 undefeated teams left in country, but only three have played 15 matches or more with Western Kentucky joining the list that includes Bowling Green and Texas.
Closing In On 1,000 KillsÂ
Katelyn Meyer is nearing the millennium mark for kills over her career in the Orange and Brown, currently with 981 with the Falcons. So far this season Meyer has a team-high 255 kills, needing just 19 more to reach 1,000 career kills. As a freshman, Meyer landed 267 kills before nearly doubling that number as a sophomore with 459 during the 2019 campaign.Â
