Falcons Land Five on All-MAC Team
April 15, 2021 | Women's Soccer
Wolfbauer, Nikki Cox earn first-team honors; Three sophomores named to second team
A total of five Bowling Green State University women's soccer standouts have been named to the All-Mid-American Conference Team. The all-league squad, along with the specialty award winners, was announced on Thursday afternoon (April 15) by the conference office.
Senior Nikki Cox and redshirt junior Madi Wolfbauer have been voted to the All-MAC First Team, while a trio of sophomores – redshirt sophomore Lili Berg and true sophs Jasmijn Dijsselhof and Audrey Shea – have earned all-league second-team honors.
Cox and Shea each earn all-conference accolades for the second-straight season. Cox was also named to the All-MAC First Team in 2019, while Shea has earned all-league second-team honors for the second time in as many seasons with the Falcons.
Cox, a native of Granville, Ohio, is ranked fourth on the team in scoring, with four points in five games. She leads the Falcons in both total shot attempts (29) and shots on goal (12). Cox scored a goal and added an assist in BGSU's 5-0 win over Kent State at Cochrane Stadium, and also had an assist in a 3-0 road victory vs. Akron in the season opener. She has averaged nearly a point per game in her stellar Falcon career, with 46 points in 50 contests, and leads all active Falcons in goals (18), assists (10) and points.
Wolfbauer, a native of Canton, Mich., leads BGSU in scoring this spring. She has five goals and 10 points in six matches this season, her first on the pitch with the Falcons. All five goals have come over the last three matches, and she is the first BGSU player with back-to-back multiple-goal games in over a decade. Wolfbauer sat out the 2019 season due to injury after transferring from the University of Illinois
Berg, who hails from New Berlin, Wis., has a miniscule 0.35 goals-against average, having allowed only two goals in over 514 minutes of action this season to date. In six starts, the first-year Falcon has kept three clean sheets and played over 70 minutes in two other shutout wins, exiting those contests with BGSU ahead by at least three goals in each case. Berg is in her first season with the Falcons after transferring to BGSU from Ohio State.
Dijsselhof, from Hattem, The Netherlands, has started all six contests this year, and has been a key factor in BG's success at both ends of the pitch. She scored her first collegiate goal against Buffalo, and has helped the Falcons score 2.50 goals per match while recording five shutouts in those six games. Dijsselhof has played in 24 career matches, making seven starts, as a Falcon.
Shea, a native of Upper Arlington, Ohio, has played a team-high 526 of the team's 543 total minutes this season. She came off of the field late in the season opener at Akron, with BGSU leading by three goals, and has played every second of each of the other five matches. Shea has started 28 of BGSU's 29 matches since her arrival on campus, missing one match in 2019 due to injury, and has helped BG keep 10 clean sheets in that time
BGSU has a 5-1-0 record, with five shutouts in six matches, heading into Saturday evening's (April 17) MAC Championship match vs. Ball State at Cochrane Stadium. The Falcons have outscored opponents, 15-2, this spring, with a 10-0 margin in the last three games.
The BGSU-BSU match begins at 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium, and admission is free.
BGSU is 46-19-7 overall, 31-7-1 in MAC regular-season matches and 37-8-3 in all games vs. conference foes since the start of the 2017 season.
Since the beginning of the 2018 campaign, the Falcons are 33-12-6 overall, 25-3-0 in MAC regular-season action and 29-3-2 in all games vs. league opposition.
