Spring 2021 Breakdown: Running Backs
April 05, 2021 | Football
Throughout the spring, BGSUFalcons.com will breakdown each position for the 2021 BGSU football program. Today, we take a look at the running backs..
Â
Part 1 -Â Tight Ends
Part 2 -Â Offensive Line
Part 3 - Quarterbacks
Bowling Green, Ohio – Terry Malone has moved from the offensive line to coach the running backs in 2021, taking over one of the most highly-regarded units entering last season. He will look to rebuild the unit following the departure of two of the team's top three backs in the fall. As with many positions for the Falcons, running backs are extremely youthful. All six players listed for 2021 are in their freshman eligibility seasons.
Â
Bowling Green fans, though, saw flashes of the future behind 5-foot-9, 216-pound true freshman Terion Stewart, a Sandusky High School graduate. He led all Falcons in rushing while gaining a staggering 8.0 yards per carry.
Â
On just thirty-seven carries, Stewart was able to gain a ridiculous 295 yards on the ground while hitting paydirt four times. Stewart, given a strong spring that continues into the fall, should figure into conversations for starting running back quite heavily as he enters his second freshman season.
Â
Trevon Raymore, a 5-10, 240-pound redshirt bruising freshman showed real flashes last season, as well as in 2019, as a productive, powerful runner. He averaged 4.7 yards per carry last season, and finished second on the team in rushing yards among returners. Raymore rumbled for 50 yards on 16 carries against Miami in 2019 before redshirting.
Â
Taron Keith returns for his second freshman season after debuting against Ohio last season, carrying the ball four times for 17 yards. From DeLand, Fla., the 5-10, 185-pound running back could serve as a potential scat back or pass-catching option throughout spring and into fall given his size and speed.
PaSean Wimberly, a converted wide receiver from Whitmer High School in Toledo, adds to the depth at the position. He played in three games during the 2020 season and was named Academic All-MAC.
Â
Jaison Patterson, a 6-0, 205-pound true freshman, enrolled early and has impressed so far in spring. Patterson has been appearing in early versions of the two-deep roster for the Orange and Brown. He chose Bowling Green over offers from Illinois, Liberty, Georgia State and Troy.
Â
Nick Mosley, a 5-10, 200-pounder from Pickering Central High School in Pickering, Ohio signed onto the program in December and will begin with the Falcons in the fall.
