Why I Give by Phil Villapiano
A wise man once said, "to whom much is given, much will be required".  I think about that verse when I reflect on the beautiful life that I have led and continue to lead today.  Getting here required a lot of things to play out in my favor, and I've gotten a lot of help along the way.
Coming back to BG for homecoming reminds me that college was really the point in my life where the light switch turned on.  You learn so much and become a grown up during these years on campus.  All the right things happened for me at Bowling Green.  Coming from New Jersey like I did, you even learn that there are people in Ohio who are not exactly like the people I grew up around.  Great people in New Jersey and equally great people in Ohio…just different experiences that you learn from and grow.

I also learned that hard work was required both in the classroom and on the football field.  I had really good teachers who helped me become the person I was when I graduated.  I appreciate how they molded me, and I recognize it now more than ever.
I remember seeing how my Dad gave back to his school, DePauw University in Indiana.  That was a lesson he gave me without even knowing it.  You give back to say thank you for the good things in life that have happened to you.  I was just in Las Vegas for the Raiders opening game.  I am blessed to be able to give back to that organization, just like I give back to Bowling Green, my high school, my church.  If you've got a great life going for you, I think you look back and say, "my parents did so much for me, but there were a lot of influences on the outside that I need to give back to."
I've been around BGSU Football for more than 50 years.  I realize you can't win big every year, and I've seen this program at its highest and its lowest.  We have a wonderful football program, and I love when we win.  But even when we lose, we don't jump off the boat.  We stick with it.  We're in it for the long haul.  I'm with Coach Loeffler and this team and I am here to support in both word and deed.  I hope every Falcon who cares about this school would do the same.
