Tennis To Open Spring Season At Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University tennis program will open the spring portion of their 2021-22 season with a dual against Notre Dame on Saturday, Jan. 22. The dual will be held at Eck Tennis Pavilion in Notre Dame, Ind., with first serve scheduled for 4 p.m.

Fall Season Recap
Bowling Green opened the 2021-22 campaign with a dominant performance at the Findlay Invitational, earning a 13-5 record in singles and an 8-1 record in doubles. Three Falcons were undefeated on the weekend, as Florencia Fuentes, Laura Maia Silveira, and Annika Vetter combined to go 10-0. The Falcons also competed at the Pam Whitehead Invitational in Cincinnati, with Ioanna Tsadari earning a share of the singles title. Vetter recorded her second consecutive 3-0 singles weekend while finishing 2-1 in doubles with partner Ines Iglesias.

The fall season continued at the ITA Regionals, held at the University of Illinois. Florencia Fuentes, Maru Poppe, Ioanna Tsadari, and Annika Vetter won their opening round singles match, as did doubles pairs Karg/Silveira and Neuman/Tsadari. Selina Karg and Hannah Neuman reached the quarterfinals of the consolation singles bracket. The Falcons concluded 2021 at the Rocket Invite, highlighted by a perfect 2-0 singles performance by Florencia Fuentes.

Opponent Outlook
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish also competed at the ITA Midwest Regionals, as Julia Andreach and Carrie Beckman qualified for the ITA Super Regional in both singles and doubles. Notre Dame has competed once in 2022, sending five players to last weekend's Michigan Invite. The Fighting Irish have a full slate this weekend, competing against Michigan State and Kentucky before hosting the Falcons.

Regardless of vaccination status, guests and staff are required to wear masks indoors (except while eating & drinking). This policy will be enforced upon entry.
