Falcons Going Against Golden Grizzlies Friday In First Road Trip Of 2022-23

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program will take to the road for the first time during the 2022-23 regular season on Friday (Nov. 11), traveling to Rochester, Mich. to face the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. tip and will be the third meeting in the last four years between the two programs. The contest will be available to watch on ESPN+. Bowling Green and Oakland will be meeting for the 11th time in program history. Each side of the matchup has tallied five wins all-time with the Falcons being the victors in the last two meetings, both of which were decided by three points or less. The last BGSU win in Rochester came during the 1999-00 season.

Closing Out The GameÂ
In the first game of the season, Bowling Green held the lead with two minutes remaining and pulled out a 62-58 victory, a common theme throughout the Coach Huger Era. With Coach Huger at the helm, the Falcons hold a record of 100-7 when leading with two minutes left in the game. The story is similar with five minutes left, having a record of 93-11 when leading.Â
Newcomers Making ImpactÂ
Two of the top three scoring Falcons in the first game of the season were new arrivals to the team. Leon Ayers III led the way for the Orange and Brown with 16 points while also tying for the team lead in rebounds with seven. Rashaun Agee was close behind with 13 points and seven rebounds as well. Sam Towns added six rebounds to the effort with Ayers III, Agee and Towns combining for 52.6% of the BGSU rebounds. Agee also led the team in free throws with seven makes on nine attempts.
Curtis Continues ConsistencyÂ
Samari Curtis began the season with a 14-point output after having 14 against Mansfield and 17 against West Virginia in this season's exhibitions. Dating back to last season, and including the exhibitions, Curtis has logged nine double-digit performances over the last 11 games. Over that span, he's averaging 13.7 points per game. Â
Avoiding Shooting Fouls
Against Air Force, the Orange and Brown had a total of 14 personal fouls, but those fouls resulted in just four free throw attempts for Air Force, going 2-for-4 at the line. As for Bowling Green, the Falcons were able to make 12-of-19 free throws, having a 10-point advantage at the free throw over the course of the game.Â
