BGSU Men's Golf Set To Start Spring Slate At Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will open up the spring portion of the schedule this week at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas. The Houston-hosted event will span two days, starting Monday (Feb. 14) and concluding Tuesday (Feb. 15) at the Laredo Country Club with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The two-day competition will include 54 holes of play. Scoring will consist of five players, counting the four lowest scores for each team across the 7,375-yard course.
The Border Olympics Field
The Border Olympics will feature a field of 15 teams with Bowling Green being the lone participant from the Mid-American Conference. The rest of the field will include host Houston as well as Abilene Christian, Baylor, Houston Baptist, Illinois State, Lamar, ULM, Louisiana Tech, Michigan, New Mexico State, Rice, Sam Houston, Texas and UTSA. In total, there will be 86 golfers competing.

The Border Olympics Field

- North was the top placing Falcon at last year's Border Olympics, tying for 54th with a three-round score total of 229 (+13).
- Mackenzie-Olson concluded the fall season with his lowest-scoring round of the season, shooting a 71 in the third round of the Bahamas Invitational.
- Pevarnik posted a season-best three-round total at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational in the fall with a score of 214 (+4) to tie for 19th in the field and help the Falcons capture a second place finish at the event.
- Gdovin was one of four Falcons to have a sub-70 round during the fall schedule, shooting a 69 in the third round of the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational. Gdovin finished the event with a fall-best 213 (+3) to tie for 16th in the field.
- Shin ended his fall campaign with his best round of season, posting a 69 during the third round of the Bahamas Invitational. Shin ended the event with a three-round score of 224 (+8).
Falcon Facts
- The Border Olympics will be the first of four spring events on the men's golf schedule before the MAC Championships at the end of April.
- The Falcons competed in six events during the fall season, spanning from September through October. Bowling Green collected their best finish at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, coming in second in the field of 13 teams with a team score of 856.
- The Orange and Brown will return to the Border Olympics event after competing in the tournament during the 2020-21 season as well. Of those competing for the Falcons, Tom North, Ian Mackenzie-Olson and Roni Shin all competed the last time the Falcons were in Laredo, Texas. North posted the best score on the team (76-76-77) to tie for 54th in the field.
