Falcons To Host Western Michigan Saturday For Senior Night, Mascot Reveal

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program will be back at the Stroh Center on Saturday (Feb. 26) for the first of two straight home games to conclude the home portion of the 2021-22 schedule. The Falcons will be hosting the Western Michigan Broncos for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off, marking the 18th of 20 MAC games this season for BGSU. The game between the Falcons and Broncos will be available to stream on ESPN3. Fans can also tune in to the action via radio on WFRO Eagle 99. The Falcons and Broncos will be meeting for the second time this season after previously playing on Jan. 22 in Kalamazoo. Bowling Green captured a win in the first meeting, snagging an 82-75 victory. Daeqwon Plowden paced the Falcons with 23 points and seven rebounds while Samari Curtis added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. The Falcons lead the all-time series with a record of 75-49 while being 43-17 when hosting WMU.Â
At The Game: Senior Night, Mascot Reveal
The Falcons will be recognizing three seniors prior to the game on Saturday against Western Michigan. Daeqwon Plowden, Trey Diggs and Matiss Kulackovskis will be recognized. Cheer and Dance seniors will be recognized at halftime as well. Following the game, BGSU will be revealing the mascots from the 2021-22 season.  Â

Regardless of vaccination status, all guests, staff, and vendors will be required to wear a face covering while in the Stroh Center. Fans are not required to show proof of vaccination to enter the Stroh Center, but face coverings – covering the nose and mouth – are required for all fans as they watch the game from their assigned seat and enter, exit, and move around. Children 2 and younger will not be required to wear a face covering. If spectators are unable to wear face coverings, they are encouraged not to attend games in-person for the sake of their health and the health of others.

Since the last meeting between the Falcons and Broncos, Western Michigan has gone 2-8 over 10 MAC contests. The WMU wins came against Central Michigan, 77-63, and Akron, 61-57 in overtime. In the last meeting between Bowling Green and Western Michigan the Broncos were led by Lamar Normar Jr. with 20 points while Markeese Hastings added nine points and 13 rebounds.Â
Falcons Recognize Three Seniors
Bowling Green will recognize three seniors on Saturday against Western Michigan: Daeqwon Plowden, Trey Diggs and Matiss Kulackovskis. Since 2017-18, Plowden and Kulackovskis have aided the Falcons to 85 wins with Diggs transferring to BG for 47 of them. The trio has combined for a total of 2,654 points, 1,390 rebounds and 342 three-pointers made in the Orange and Brown.
Curtis Leading The Way
Over the last three games, Samari Curtis has led the Falcons in points while playing at least 30 minutes in each contest. He also led BGSU in assists twice over those three games. Curtis began the stretch with 19 points and three assists against Buffalo. He then followed that up with 18 points and six assists against Ball State before dropping 21 points on Akron. Curtis now has a team-high 85 assists this season while averaging 9.1 points per game, including 19.3 over the last three games.Â
Plowden Posting Career Year
In the midst of moving up the all-time record lists, Daeqwon Plowden has also managed to post arguably his best season as a Falcon. Plowden has posted a career-high 445 points this season, resulting in a career-best 15.9 points per game during the 2021-22 campaign. He's also just four blocks, two steals and eight assists shy of setting new single season-highs for each respective category during his time in the Orange and Brown.Â
Getting To The LineÂ
Over the last five games, the Falcons have continued a year-long trend of getting to the free throw line, averaging 23.8 free throw attempts per game over that stretch. Bowling Green currently ranks first in the conference for both free throw attempts and free throws made. As for the national rankings, the Falcons are currently ranked 14th for free throws attempted with 590 and ninth for free throws made with 438.
