Falcons To Close February With Two Road Matches

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team continues non-conference competition with two more road matches. The Falcons begin the weekend with an 11 a.m. match against Michigan State on Saturday, Feb. 26, held in East Lansing, Michigan. The next day (Feb. 27), BGSU will travel to Cleveland for a 1 p.m. match against Cleveland State.

Last Time Out
The Falcons split their matches in Youngstown, defeating Saint Francis, 5-2, before falling to Youngstown State, 6-1. Selina Karg, Ioanna Tsadari, Maru Poppe, Annika Vetter, and Florencia Fuentes each won a singles match for the Orange and Brown, while Karg/Neuman and Vetter/Poppe each won a doubles match.

Opponent Outlook: Michigan State
Michigan State has a 5-1 record this spring, with their most recent win coming against Eastern Michigan. Like the Falcons, the Spartans began the spring season on Jan. 22 against Notre Dame. MSU was defeated by the Fighting Irish, 6-1.

Michigan State has won 21 of its 22 matches against BGSU, most recently in 2019. In September, the Spartans and Falcons participated in the ITA Regionals at Illinois. The teams met twice in the singles bracket, with each team winning a match. Florencia Fuentes defeated Dagmar Zdrubecka, then Nicole Stephens beat Maru Poppe.

Saturday's match will be held at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing, Michigan. Parking is available for free at the facility. Per MSU and facility policy, face coverings must be worn by everyone indoors.

Cleveland State has a 6-4 record this season, with a 1-2 mark against MAC teams. The Vikings also lost to Cincinnati, their lone common opponent with BGSU. CSU's non-conference slate continues with MAC teams, as they host Buffalo before their match with the Falcons.

The Falcons have a 13-3 all-time record against the Vikings, including three consecutive victories. Last season, Selina Karg helped the Falcons to a win with wins in singles and doubles. The Vikings swept the doubles round.

Sunday's match will be played in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio. Parking is available for free at the facility. Per Cleveland State University policy, properly worn masks that cover the nose and mouth are required indoors, regardless of vaccination status
