Falcons Set For Friday Morning Match In Kalamazoo, Home Match Sunday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons tennis team opens April with two MAC matches this weekend, one on the road and one at home. The Falcons travel to Kalamazoo for a Friday (April 1) morning contest with Western Michigan, held at the West Hills Athletic Club at 10 a.m. BGSU returns to the Perrysburg Tennis Center on Sunday (April 3) for a showdown with Buffalo at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Falcons dropped both of their MAC matches last weekend, falling to Miami (6-1) and Eastern Michigan (4-3). Ioanna Tsadari and Selina Karg each earned a win in the No. 1 singles spot, with Karg and Hannah Neuman adding a doubles win against EMU. Annika Vetter and Maru Poppe also won in doubles against the Eagles, giving the Falcons the day's first point. Vetter's three-set singles win at No. 3 gave BGSU its third point.

Opponent Outlook: Western Michigan
Western Michigan enters with a 9-7 overall record and 1-2 MAC record. The Broncos have split with the two teams to defeat BGSU, beating Eastern Michigan, 4-3, before falling to Miami, 5-2. WMU opened the conference slate with a 5-2 loss to Ball State. The Falcons and Broncos have one common non-conference opponent, Cleveland State. BGSU defeated CSU while WMU fell to the Broncos.

Lindsey Zieglar has been named MAC Singles Player of the Week twice, with Ana Guadiana earning a place on two MAC Doubles Team of the Week honorees. Guadiana has been paired with Femke Tjon-A-Joe and Kiana Rizzolo, with the Guadiana/Rizzolo duo earning the honor the same week as Zieglar.

The last 10 matches between BGSU and WMU have been split, 5-5, with three of the last four favoring the Orange and Brown. The Broncos took the first battle of the 2021 campaign, 4-3. Selina Karg picked up a singles win at No. 5 while Ioanna Tsadari earned a doubles win. In the rematch, Bowling Green earned a 5-2 triumph, with Karg tallying wins in singles and doubles play. Tsadari and Hannah Neuman also notched wins in doubles.

The Bulls enter the weekend at 12-5 overall and 1-2 in the MAC. Buffalo dropped the MAC opener to Miami, 5-2, before falling in a close contest to Ball State, 4-3. Last weekend, UB rebounded with a 7-0 victory over Northern Illinois. Four of the six singles matches extended to three sets, but the Bulls were victorious in each.

Two of Buffalo's doubles duos have earned MAC Doubles Team of the Week. On February 15, Ambre Amat and Lolina Schietekat Sedas were recognized. On March 11, Pia Schwarz and Azra Deniz Comlek were honored. The Bulls open the weekend at home with a Friday (April 1) match against Toledo.

Bowling Green has a 16-10 advantage in the all-time series. Last year, the Falcons halted a five-match UB win streak by taking both matches against the Bulls. Selina Karg had a combined 4-0 record across the matches, with Ioanna Tsadari adding two doubles wins. Hannah Neuman and Laura Maia Silveira each tallied a doubles win as well.
