FASCINATING FALCON FACTS

• Alberto Anaya scored what would prove to be the winning goal, breaking a 1-1 tie in the 71st minute, and Sergi Martinez scored to double the Falcons' lead less than four minutes later.
• Brendan Graves made two saves in the win, and Joey Akpunonu stopped back-to-back shots on the goal line in the first half.
• BGSU has allowed just four goals in six matches, with one coming via a penalty kick, and the Falcons have now scored four goals of their own this season.
• In this season's six matches, the Falcons have neither scored nor allowed a first-half goal. In fact, seven-straight BGSU contests, dating to last season, have been knotted up, 0-0, at the intermission.
• Brendan Graves and the BGSU back line have been stellar in goal this season so far. Graves has allowed just four goals – including one on a PK – in 540 minutes of action. Graves has 15 saves and a goals-against average of 0.67 this season. He now has a career GAA of 1.22 and four shutouts in 13 career starts.
• After the win at Air Force, BGSU is now 76-9-6 when scoring two or more goals in a match in the Eric Nichols Era.
• The Falcons are 54-28-20 in home matches since Nichols took the helm prior to the 2009 season. After going 4-8-2 at home in his first two years, the Falcons are 50-20-18 at Cochrane since the start of the 2011 campaign.
• Entering the Oakland match, the Falcons have an overall record of 37-22-10 over the last 69 games, dating to midway through the 2018 season. Fourteen of the 22 setbacks in that time have come by a single goal.
• The Falcons have been picked to win the MAC regular-season title in 2022. BGSU received 19 points in the league preseason coaches poll, with both Akron and Northern Illinois garnering 18 points.
THE OPPONENTS
• Oakland enters Friday's match with a record of 0-5-2. The Golden Grizzlies are coming off of a scoreless draw on the road against Michigan. Oakland also played Purdue Fort Wayne to a draw, 1-1, in the team's lone Horizon League match to date. Dawson Schrum leads the team with two assists and four points this season, while Michael Sly, Jr., has started each of the last three matches in goal. He has 28 saves, one shutout and a goals-against average of 1.20 on the season. Last year, head coach Eric Pogue's club went 12-7-2 overall and 8-1-1 in HL play, winning the league tournament and advancing to the NCAA Championships.
• Western Michigan has a 5-1-0 record heading into a Friday matchup with Northern Illinois. The Broncos have won five-straight matches, including victories over Big Ten Conference foes Michigan State, Wisconsin and Northwestern. WMU has outscored the last two opponents, Purdue Fort Wayne and St. Thomas, by a combined 7-0 score. Charlie Sharp and Dylan Sing have eight points apiece, as Sharp has four goals while Sing has a pair of goals and four assists. In goal, MSU transfer Hunter Morse has 13 saves, four shutouts and a GAA of just 0.50. Last season, head coach Chad Wiseman's club went 7-6-5 overall and 2-3-1 in MAC play.
THE SERIES

Last season, in the teams' first meeting in 17 years, the Falcons scored three first-half goals to down the host Grizzlies, 3-0 (Oct. 26, 2021). Alberto Anaya, Michael Montemurri and Abdi Faqi all scored, while Brendan Graves earned the shutout in goal. The teams' last meeting prior to last season was a 2-0 Oakland win in September of 2004. BGSU is 1-4-0 at home and 2-2-1 on the road vs. the Golden Grizzlies.
• BGSU leads WMU, 28-20-6, in that series, and the teams played to a 1-1 tie in last season's lone meeting, on Oct. 30, 2021, at Cochrane. Prior to that match, the Broncos had won three-straight matchups vs. the Falcons. As it stands, Western is 5-0-3 since the Falcons' last series win, a 2-1 overtime triumph at Cochrane eight years ago (Nov. 1, 2014). BG is 2-0-3 in the last five home matchups vs. WMU. The Falcons won the first 11 series meetings, and BGSU began the series with a 24-3-2 mark. But, WMU is 17-4-4 vs. the Orange and Brown since 2002. All told, the Falcons are 16-4-5 at home, 11-14-1 on the road and 1-2-0 in neutral-site matches vs. the Broncos through the years.
