BGSU To Welcome Ohio To Stroh Center For Dollar Night, Title IX Day This Weekend

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball program will return home to the Stroh Center to host the Ohio Bobcats this weekend. The Falcons are coming off a weekend sweep over Kent State to begin conference play, returning home for the first time in nearly a month with a 2-0 MAC standing. The last home stand for Bowling Green resulted in a 2-1 record, topping Northern Kentucky and DePaul at the Hampton Inn Invitational. The first match of the weekend is set for a 6:00 p.m. first serve on Friday with Saturday's contest scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. inside the Stroh Center.
At The Match
The first match against the Bobcats, taking place on Friday (Sept. 30), will be Dollar Night at the Stroh Center. Tickets and concessions will be $1 with post match autographs on the concourse. As for Saturday (Oct. 1), Bowling Green will be celebrating Title IX day. The first 100 fans will receive a Frieda Falcon bobblehead.
Battling The Bobcats
Ohio enters the weekend against the Falcons with an 8-5 record on the season, including a 2-0 standing within the MAC. The Bobcats opened MAC play with a weekend sweep over Miami, holding the RedHawks to 15 or fewer points in three of the seven sets played. During non-conference play, Ohio put together a five-match win streak, topping Kansas City, Howard, Tulane, Bradley and Loyola Maryland. They faced one ranked opponent, falling in three sets to No. 11 Kentucky. The Bobcats also lost in three sets to Notre Dame and in five sets to Missouri.
For the second straight week the Falcons will face multiple MAC East Players of the Week from the previous week of competition. For Ohio, Sam Steele was named MAC East Defensive Player of the Week after collecting 62 digs over two matches against Miami. Steele also had just one reception error on 42 attempts. Tria McLean was also named the MAC East Setter of the Week with 73 assists for the Bobcats, including a double-double in the first match of the weekend.
All-Time Against The Bobcats
This weekend will mark the 90th and 91st meetings between the Bowling Green Falcons and Ohio Bobcats in program history. Bowling Green has won seven of the last eight meetings, including the most recent matchup which came in the 2021 MAC Tournament with a score of 3-1. As for matches played at the Stroh Center between the two teams, the Falcons have won three straight when hosting the Bobcats.
Strengthening Through Schedule
Up to this point in the season, the Bowling Green Falcons have the sixth-toughest schedule in the nation according to past opponents win-loss percentages. Only five teams have faced a more difficult schedule to this point in the year than the Falcons, being Ohio State, Minnesota, Stanford, Louisville and Kentucky. The teams BGSU has played thus far have a combined record of 113-47 (.706). The next team in the MAC on the list is Ball State at 80th with a mark of .572.
