Falcons Stay Undefeated In MAC Play With 3-0 Victory Over Ohio

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball program began the home portion of the MAC schedule on Friday night (Sept. 30) against Ohio with a 3-0 victory. The Falcons were able to hold Ohio to 17 points in the first set and 16 in the second before completing the win with a 25-22 score in the third set. With the win, the Falcons move to 3-0 in conference play and 8-6 on the season and are now in the midst of a three-match win streak, including back-to-back three-set sweeps.
In the match, the Falcons were paced by a complete team effort. Six different players logged at least two blocks and a kill. Yelianiz Torres filled the stat sheet with 10 digs, six assists and five aces for the Falcons. Lauryn Hovey followed suit with seven assists, six kills, five digs and three block assists. The Falcons will return to the court on Saturday (Oct. 1) to conclude the weekend series against the Bobcats.

How It Happened
Set 1: Bowling Green 25, Ohio 17
- The match began close before a 4-0 run gave the Falcons a 12-7 lead and forced a timeout from the Ohio bench. Out of the timeout, Bowling Green tallied another three straight points to extend the run to 7-0, prompting another timeout from the Ohio bench.
- Later in the set the Falcons were able to utilize a 4-0 run to extend the score to 19-9 before Ohio responded with a 4-0 run of their own.
- The Falcons were able to hold the lead to the end of the set and take a 25-17 first set score for the 1-0 advantage on the night.
Set 2: Bowling Green 25, Ohio 16
- The second set saw the Falcons go on a 3-0 run to create an 11-6 lead and force a timeout from Ohio.
- Bowling Green continued forward with the lead into the next stoppage, coming from a timeout called by Ohio with the score at 18-12.
- The Orange and Brown maintained the advantage to a 25-16 second set score to go up 2-0 in the match.
Set 3: Bowling Green 25, Ohio 22
- The Falcons tallied the first two points of the third set before Ohio called a quick timeout.
- Later in the set Ohio went on a 4-0 run to move out in front 13-11 and force the first Bowling Green timeout of the match.
- The Falcons were able to string together a 3-0 run later in the set to move back in front 16-15 with Ohio taking a timeout.
- Ohio worked back into the set with a 3-0 run of their own to draw the score to 21-20 BGSU and prompt a Bowling Green timeout.
- The Falcons were able to hold on for the 25-22 set win to complete the 3-0 sweep on the night.

- The Falcons picked up their second consecutive three-set victory and third straight win within the Mid-American Conference. Through the first three conference matches of the season, the Falcons have a set record of 9-1 and have won the first set in each match.
- In addition to leading the team in digs with 10, Yelianiz Torres landed a career-high five aces for the Falcons. She filled out her stat line with six assists in the match as well.
- Petra Indrova led the Falcons in kills with 12 on the night. Indrova landed the 12 kills on 25 attempts with just one error for a hitting percentage of .440, her best mark of the season thus far.
- Katelyn Meyer was one of five different Falcons to total at least three blocks assists in the match. The mark set a new season-high for Meyer in both block assists and total blocks.
