EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Bowling Green Falcons tennis team completed the first day of competition at the Spartan Invite, the first competition of the 2022-23 season. Maru Poppe, playing with Youngstown State's Jessica Stanmore, advanced in the 'D' flight. The duo won their doubles match against Chicago State's Katy Dukic and Amina Taibi, then Poppe cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Dukic in singles play.

Also competing in the 'D' flight were BGSU newcomers Eloise Saraty and Lucy Furness. They fell in doubles play to Michigan State's Sarah Fazlagic and Monique Karoub. In singles play, Saraty had the upper hand in two close sets, 6-4, 7-6 (5). Furness dropped a tight singles match to Karoub, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4, pushing the Falcon duo to the consolation bracket.

Hannah Neuman and Ioanna Tsadari played in the 'B' flight for BGSU, falling to Michigan State's duo of Elisa Rigazio and Lili Minich. Both Falcons won one of the sets in singles play and they will play in the consolation bracket tomorrow.
