White's first-half goal proves to be the winner
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Kennedy White's first-half goal lifted the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over the University of Detroit Mercy. The non-conference match was held at Cochrane Stadium.
On Senior Day, seniors Lili Berg and Kasey Hartmann each played 45 minutes in goal as BGSU (1-2-1) kept a clean sheet. Another senior, White, gave the Falcons the only goal they would need in the 35th minute. White redirected a cross from freshman Brynn Gardner after White's initial pass had sent Gardner down the right side of the pitch.
The Falcons had a 15-6 advantage in total shot attempts, and a 4-1 lead in shots on goal. Berg was not called upon to make a save in her 45 minutes of time between the posts, while Hartmann made one save – a diving stop of a free kick – during her second-half stint.
For the Titans (2-3-1), Jazmine Scott had three saves on the afternoon.
A total of 20 different players saw action for the Falcons.
NOTE OF THE DAY
• Kennedy White now has 16 goals and 39 points in her BGSU career. She has moved into a tie for 12th with Britt Anderson (2002-05) on the school career goals list.
• With her 39 points, White has moved past Janice Mentrup (1997-2000) into sole possession of 15th place on that BGSU list.
HIGHLIGHTS
• On Senior Day at Cochrane Stadium, it was raining prior to (and at) the start of the match, but the precipitation subsided during the first half, and the rain held off for the remainder of the match.
• With 15 minutes gone, Maya Dean stole a UDM free kick, with a header at midfield. The ball sailed past a pair of Titan defenders and into the path of the onrushing Lacee Bethea. But, the junior's shot from just inside the box was saved by Jazmine Scott.
• The Falcons got on the board with just over 10 minutes left in the first half. BGSU broke up a Detroit Mercy foray into the box, and the ball was played to Brynn Gardner. Gardner headed upfield on the right side, beating a UDM player and sending a pass to Kennedy White near midfield. White quickly played the ball back to Gardner, who took the ball into the penalty area. Gardner slid a pass into the center of the 18-yard box, and White ran onto it and neatly deposited a low shot into the back of the net.
• Midway through the second half, the Falcons won a free kick after Alaina Uncapher was fouled approximately 25 yards from goal. Alexis Miller stepped up and took the ensuing free kick, firing a shot and ringing it off of the crossbar. The ball bounded toward Bethea, who saw her follow-up shot blocked out of play for a corner kick.
• Down by a goal with four minutes left, the Titans won a free kick just outside the penalty area, and Hailey Wentzloff fired a shot on goal, but Kasey artmann was there to make a diving save.
• Just over a minute later, Paige Myers played a diagonal ball into the box. The ball eluded the lunging effort of a BGSU defender, and as it bounced on the wet ground, Hartman got a piece of the ball, but it continued toward the far side of the penalty area. The Titans' Taylor Stanley tracked it down and hit a turnaround shot from the corner of the six-yard box, but that shot was blocked by Rylee Clark, and the Falcons then cleared the ball out of the area.

• On Senior Day, a total of eight Falcons were recognized in festivities prior to the contest. That group included Lili Berg, Alexis Miller, Mackenzie Reuber, Jasmijn Dijsselhof, Kasey Hartmann, Lauren Milner, Makenzie Ortman and Kennedy White.
• Four days after making her BGSU debut in the Falcons' game at nationally-ranked Tennessee, Hartmann made her official Cochrane Stadium debut. She played the entire second half of the UDM match, and made one save – a diving stop of a free kick by Taylor Stanley.
• Kennedy White, as mentioned, moved up the BGSU career lists for goals and points. She now has 16 goals and 39 points as a Falcon.
• White now has scored 24 points at Cochrane Stadium, tying her for 15th on that career list. She has scored nine goals at home, deadlocking her for 12th on that chart.
