BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament with a 3-0 win over Buffalo Saturday (Nov. 11) on Senior Night. The Falcons started strong with a .538 hitting percentage in the first set. The momentum carried into a tight second set, winning 25-23, before securing the match in the third set for the sweep. With the win, the Falcons have now won nine of their last 10 and will continue their campaign into the postseason at the MAC Tournament after Wednesday night's (Nov. 15) regular season finale against Miami (OH).Â
On the stat sheet, Lauryn Hovey landed 20 kills for her second 20-kill match in as many nights and her third of the season. Kat Mandly followed with 17 of her own. Jaden Walz set the attack with 40 kills and just missed a double-double, finishing with nine digs. Continuing in the digs column, Alex Laboy topped the stat sheet with 16.Â

How It HappenedÂ
Set 1: Bowling Green 25, Buffalo 16
- The Falcons began the match with a 6-0 run to force an early timeout from the Buffalo bench.
- A 3-0 run later in the set extended the BGSU lead to 12-3, but Buffalo utilized a 3-0 run of their own to bring the score to 12-6.
- Bowling Green furthered their advantage with a 4-0 run to move up 17-8 before taking a 20-10 lead into a Buffalo timeout.
- A 5-0 run for the Bulls cut into the BGSU lead, trimming it down to 22-15 and forcing the first Bowling Green timeout of the match.
- The Falcons tallied two points out of the timeout before taking the set 25-16 to go up 1-0 for the match.
Set 2: Bowling Green 25, Buffalo 23
- The second set began close with a 3-0 Buffalo run creating a 6-3 Bulls lead, but the Falcons responded with a 3-0 run to tie it up at 6-6.
- The run-trading continued with a Buffalo run to make it 9-6 followed by a BGSU run to tie it up at 9-9.
- Buffalo stepped out in front, taking a 15-13 lead into the media break. Two more points after the media timeout made it a 3-0 run for them and a 17-13 lead, resulting in a BGSU timeout.
- Following the timeout, the Falcons continue to chip away at the lead, trimming it to 19-18 before a Buffalo timeout.
- The Falcons landed two more points out of the timeout to make it a 5-0 run and take the lead at 21-19 to bring the second UB timeout of the set.
- Buffalo answered with a 4-1 run out of the timeout to reclaim the lead at 23-22 with Bowling Green taking a second timeout.
- The Falcons closed out the set with a 3-0 run to move ahead 25-23 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3: Bowling Green 25, Buffalo 22
- The third set began as close as the first before a 3-0 Buffalo lead pushed them ahead 11-9, continuing with another 3-0 run to make it a 6-1 stretch with Buffalo up 14-10 before going to the media break up 15-11.
- The Falcons recorded the next two points out of the timeout, but Buffalo answered with two of their own to force a BGSU timeout with the score at 17-13.
- A 4-0 BGSU stretch after the timeout tied the match at 17-17 before a 3-0 run propelled the Falcons in front 22-20 to force a Buffalo timeout.
- The Falcons were able to maintain their lead for the 25-22 set score to take the match with a 3-0 final

- The win clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament for the Falcons. The seed and opponent for BGSU will be determined with the last matches of the season this upcoming Wednesday (Nov. 15).Â
- With the win, the Falcons are now 41-10 against Buffalo all-time, including being 23-4 when hosting the Bulls. BGSU has also won 10 straight in the series, including 11 of the last 12.
- The Falcons held Buffalo to a .176 hitting percentage, moving their record to 14-2 this season when holding their opponent under .200 on the attack.Â
- Lauryn Hovey landed 20 kills, her third 20-kill match of the season and her second of the weekend. On top of the team-leading 20 kills, Hovey maintained a hitting percentage of .302 in the match.Â
- Kat Mandly followed on the attack with 17 kills while maintaining a .293 hitting percentage.
- Jaden Walz just missed a double-double, finishing with 40 assists for the Falcons to go along with nine digs.
- Alex Laboy led the way in digs with 16 while logging two assists and an ace for the Orange and Brown.
- Going back to the 2019 season, the Orange and Brown are now 22-5 in the month of November.Â
