Erdman scores first collegiate goal in Thursday's setback
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Ohio University scored a pair of goals early in the second half to erase a halftime deficit, and the Bobcats went on to a 2-1 win over the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team on Thursday (Nov. 2). The match, a semifinal-round contest in the Mid-American Conference Tournament, was held at the WMU Soccer Complex.
Freshman Christine Erdman scored her first collegiate goal for the Falcons (10-6-2, [8-1-2 MAC]), with assists from Lacee Bethea and Emma Stransky.
Erdman's goal put second-seeded BGSU up in the 37th minute, and that lead stood up until the half. But, the sixth-seeded Bobcats got a goal from Rayann Pruss in the first minute of the second half, and Scout Murray's unassisted goal nine minutes later gave Ohio the lead for good.
BGSU held a 14-11 lead in total shot attempts and a 6-5 margin in shots on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Falcons were on the front foot early, as Ellie Pool took the first shot of the match just 37 seconds in, forcing Ohio goalkeeper Celeste Sloma to make a save. Pool put another shot on frame just over four minutes into the match, attempting to poke the ball over Sloma after a pass by Brynn Gardner had put her into the penalty area, but Sloma was able to block the shot.
• BGSU won a corner, and off of that Pool kick, Taylor Green got her head on the ball, but the shot was off target.
• After a steal by Brynn Gardner in the 27th minute, Pool hit a shot from distance that was on goal, but again, Sloma was able to come up with the stop.
• The Falcons scored with 8:18 left before halftime. A throw-in found Emma Stransky, who went past several Ohio players as she took the ball toward the end line. Stransky played a low ball back toward the center of the box, and a nifty backheel by Lacee Bethea kept the ball moving along the six-yard line. Christine Erdman raced in and smashed a shot past the helpless Sloma to give the Brown and Orange the lead. The goal was the first of Erdman's collegiate career.
• With just seconds remaining before halftime, Bethea hit a shot from distance that Sloma knocked down, then grabbed before anyone could get to the rebound.
• Just 56 seconds into the second half, the Bobcats tied the score. A right-side cross by Ella.Deevers made its way toward the near post, where Rayann Pruss was able to trundle it across the goal line.
• Less than four minutes later, a through ball put Pruss in on goal on the left side, but Madison Vukas made a spectacular kick save of her cross.
•But, in the 55th minute, the 'Cats took the lead. A BG defender looked to clear the ball out of the penalty area after it had been played in from the left side. But, Scout Murray ran onto the ball and hit a speculative turnaround shot from just outside the 18. The shot was perfectly placed, floating into the upper-right-hand corner to make it a 2-1 game.
• Just under a minute after the goal, a BG corner kick sailed toward the box, and Makenzie Ortman hit a hard shot before the ball hit the ground. But, Ortman's well-timed volley went over the crossbar.
• Maya Dean made a long run with under eight minutes to go, finding Pool with a pass. Pool, near the top of the box, slid a pass toward Brynn Gardner on her right, and Gardner's ball was deflected into the air. As BG looked to control it after it pinged around in the box, a Falcon was ruled to be offside.
• Ohio quickly countered, and Jaimason Brooker found some space and hit a hard shot, but Vukas made a diving stop to keep it a one-goal game.
• BGSU looked to go forward as the final seconds ticked away, but a shot by Isabelle Gilmore was blocked, and Ohio was able to close out the win.
STATS, NOTES & NUMBERS
• BGSU had advantages of 14-11 in total shots, 6-5 in shots on goal and 9-5 in corner kicks.
• The Falcons had a 9-3 lead in first-half shots, while Ohio had an 8-5 advantage in that category in the second half.
• Christine Erdman's goal, as mentioned, was the first of her collegiate career. Erdman becomes the 11th different Falcon to score a goal this season.
