Falcons, RedHawks Set For 150th Meeting All-Time Tuesday In Oxford

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program will be back on the road for one game before returning home, traveling to Oxford, Ohio on Tuesday (Feb. 21) to face the Miami RedHawks. The Falcons and RedHawks are scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip at Millett Hall Tuesday night. The game will be available for fans to watch on ESPN+. Fans can tune in to the action via WFRO Eagle 99. Tuesday will mark the 150th meeting all-time, and the second this season, between Bowling Green and Miami (OH). The all-time series leans to the RedHawks with a record of 98-60, but the Falcons won the last meeting and have taken two of the last three. In the first meeting, BGSU claimed an 83-73 victory behind 31 points from Leon Ayers III. Kaden Metheny added 14 while Samari Curtis and Rashaun Agee combined for 19 points off the bench. Bowling Green's last win in Oxford came on Jan. 16, 2018 in an 81-70 final.Â

Scouting The RedHawksÂ
The RedHawks are coming off an overtime win at Northern Illinois Saturday. The 66-65 final marked the third conference win of the season for Miami with wins over Western Michigan (85-78) and Buffalo (91-80). Mekhi Lairy leads the way for Miami, averaging 17.4 points per game. Morgan Safford is close behind with 15.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.Â
Metheny Nearing Record Book StatusÂ
Kaden Metheny is just two three-pointers away from adding his name to the BGSU Men's Basketball record book. Metheny has a team-high 64 triples this season, setting a new career-high for his time as a Falcon. Currently, Trey Diggs is 10th in program history for three-pointers in a single season with 66. Metheny enters Tuesday's game needing two to tie and three to pass Diggs for 10th. Brian Moten is currently ninth with 69. Metheny is averaging 2.7 triples a game with four games remaining in the regular season, putting him on pace to finish the regular season with 74.
Curtis Eyeing Program RecordÂ
Samari Curtis is currently 19th in the nation, and third in the MAC, for free throw percentage with a mark of 88.7%, going 94-of-106 from the line. Curtis has improved his percentage at the line by 21.6 percentage points from a year ago. The current program record for a single season is 88.4% by Clinton Venable during the 1989-90 season.Â
Falcons From The FieldÂ
Against Toledo, Bowling Green shot 54.2% from the field, marking the eighth time this season with a shooting percentage above 50%, all coming in the last 16 games. Over the same stretch, BGSU has shot below 40% just once and has a field goal percentage of 49.1% (456-of-928). During the stretch, Sam Towns leads the team at 63.0% (34-of-54) followed by Rashaun Agee (57.3%, 63-of-110) Leon Ayers III (52.2%, 109-of-209) and Gabe O'Neal (59.5%, 22-of-37) over the 50% mark.Â
Assisting BGSUÂ
The Falcons have picked up their assist totals over the last two games, recording 15 against Central Michigan and 19 against Toledo, averaging 17.0 assists per game. This comes after a four-game stretch where the Falcons averaged 9.0 assists a game. In wins this season, the Falcons are averaging 16.0 assists per game, but in losses that number falls to 12.9. BGSU's season-high came against Ohio Dominican in the non-conference finale when the Falcons tallied 25 assists, the team's third 20+ assist game.Â
Mills Making MovesÂ
Brenton Mills has filled the stat sheet for the Falcons of late. Against Toledo, Mills recorded 13 points and led the team in both rebounds (7) and steals (3) while adding three assists. Mills matched his season-high for both field goals (5) and threes (3) made in a game. This came just two games after Mills posted a season-high 14 points against Ball State.Â
