Falcons Fall On The Road To Golden Flashes

KENT, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program took on the Kent State Golden Flashes inside the M.A.C. Center Tuesday night (Feb. 7). An early 14-0 run by Kent State pushed the Golden Flashes out to an 18-5 advantage. KSU was able to maintain their lead through the end of the game, taking an 87-64 final. The loss moves the Falcons to 10-14 on the season and 4-7 within the Mid-American Conference.
On the stat sheet, Kaden Metheny paced the Falcons with a team-high 19 points. Metheny splashed five threes for the Orange and Brown, his fourth game this season with at least five triples. Leon Ayers III joined in the double-digit scoring with 13. Sam Towns added nine points, including five at the line, and a team-high five rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons and Golden Flashes traded buckets early in the contest, going into the first media timeout with Kent State leading 8-5.
- Out of the the media timeout, Kent State continued a run that reached 14-0 before the next stoppage, coming via a BGSU timeout with the score at 18-5.
- Bowling Green began to chip away at the Kent State lead, trimming the deficit to 21-12 at the under-8 media timeout.
- The effort to cut the lead continued for the Falcons. Kaden Metheny made back-to-back triples to cap a 13-5 BGSU stretch to bring the score to 23-18 Kent State.
- The Golden Flashes were able to rebuild their lead before the halftime buzzer, going to the locker room up 34-25.
- The Falcons recorded the first points of the second half, coming from two free throws by Sam Towns. BGSU trimmed the lead down to six at 38-32 after another Metheny triple, but KSU stretched their lead back to double-digits at 42-32, forcing a BGSU timeout.
- The Kent State lead extended out to 46-32 with an 8-0 run before a Brenton Mills layup ended the streak. The Golden Flashes responded with another 7-0 run to bring the stretch to 15-2 with a 53-34 lead.
- Bowling Green responded with a 5-0 stretch to narrow the lead to 53-39 at the under-12 media break. The Falcons added another five out of the timeout to cut the lead down to single-digits at 53-44.
- KSU put together a run of their own, 6-0, to reestablish their double-digit lead at 61-49. The run continued to 12-2 to push Kent State out in front 67-51 with BGSU calling a timeout.
- Kent State entered the final media timeout of the game with a 5-0 run to push the Golden Flashes' lead to 77-58.
- The Golden Flashes were able to maintain their lead to the final whistle, taking an 87-64 final.

- Sam Towns tallied five of his nine points at the free throw line, going a team-high 5-of-6 at the line. The five made free throws set a new career-high for Towns while his six attempts matched his career-high. Shooting 83.3% at the line, Towns also set a new career-best for free throw percentage in a game.
- Rashaun Agee matched his career-high for steals in a game with a pair, leading the Falcons in the stat for the contest.
