SETTING THE SCENE
• The Bowling Green State University softball team returns home for a weekend series vs. Ball State University. Head coach Candace Fenton-Bockbrader and the Falcons will meet the Cardinals in a three-game series, beginning with a Saturday (April 22) doubleheader. First pitch of the first game is set for 1:00 p.m. at Meserve Field.
• Then, the teams will meet in a Sunday (April 23) single game, beginning at 12:00 p.m.

• Saturday's first game is scheduled to air on BCSN2 in the Toledo area, and will also be available on the BCSN Now App.

FUN FALCON FACTS
• Fenton-Bockbrader and assistant coaches Erinn Gankosky and Jacob Jeffries welcomed back 13 returning letterwinners from last year's club. The 2022 Falcons went 34-21 (.618) overall and 16-11 (.593) in MAC play, good for fourth place in the 11-team league.
• Sophie Weber leads the 2023 Falcons at the plate, with a .314 batting average to date. Weber also leads the Falcons with 33 hits, nine doubles, three homers, 16 RBI, 51 total bases and a .486 slugging pct.
• Peyton Dolejs is hitting .259 on the year, in a team-high 108 at-bats. Dolejs is tied for the BG lead with 16 runs scored, and is second on the club in hits (28) and RBI (13 - tied for second). Dolejs and Weber are the only two Falcons to have seen action in all 38 games this season.
• Dolejs picked up her 100th career hit in last weekend's series at Akron. She also has 50 career RBI to lead active Falcons in the latter category.
• Freshman Marti Henkel is batting .257, with classmates Delaney Davis and Katie Hutter each hitting .250. Davis paces the Falcons with seven stolen bases and is tied for the BG lead in both runs scored (16) and on-base percentage (.379).
• Dolejs has a BG-best nine multiple-hit games, while Weber has seven, Davis six and Makailah Dees five. Wynnie Reid is hitting a team-leading .294 in MAC games to date.
• Hannah Davies has thrown a team-high 84 2/3 innings this year, and also leads BG pitchers in appearances (20), starts (13), complete games (five) and strikeouts (61). Davies has a 6.12 ERA this season.
• Sydney Stepp has an ERA of 6.19, while Scarlet Anderson has a team-best five wins and a 7.00 ERA. Anderson is second on the team with 18 appearances in the circle. Stepp has made 10 starts and Anderson nine for the Orange and Brown.
THE OPPONENT / THE SERIES
• Ball State brings an overall record of 21-21 into the weekend, and the Cardinals are 11-9 in MAC play. BSU has won four-straight games, including a sweep of visiting Buffalo last weekend. Individually, Amaia Daniel is hitting a team-high .419, with Haley Wynn batting .386 and McKayla Timmons .355. Timmons has team-high totals of 10 homers and 37 RBI, while Wynn has eight round-trippers and has driven in 31 runs. In the circle, Angelina Russo has a team-low ERA of 2.89, and is 9-6 with 69 strikeouts in 99 1/3 innings. Head coach Lacy Schurr's team went 22-31 overall and 15-14 in the MAC in 2022.
• The Falcons lead Ball State, 54-48, in the all-time series. BGSU captured two of last season's three meetings in Muncie, with a pair of 2-1 wins (the first in nine innings) sandwiched around a 7-2 setback. The teams' last 10 meetings all have taken place in Muncie, as BGSU has not hosted the Cardinals since late March of 2018.
