BGSU defensive lineman is the first Falcon selected in 2023
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green senior defensive lineman Karl Brooks (Lansing, Mich.) was selected by the Green Bay Packers during Saturday's sixth round of the National Football Draft. Brooks was the 179th overall pick and the first defensive lineman from Bowling Green since Chris Jones was selected by the Houston Texans in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
Brooks is the first Falcon drafted by the Packers since 1984 when Mark Emans was taken in the 12th round. Brooks is the fourth Falcon all-time to be drafted by the Packers.
Brooks, a first-team All-American by Pro Football Focus (PFF), was the highest graded (93.4) edge defender in FBS this season. Brooks was No. 8 in the nation with 10 sacks and No. 9 with 18 tackles for loss. His 49 hurries and 69 total pressures per PFF rank No. 1 in the nation among all FBS defenders. Brooks created a pressure 17.8 percent of his pass rushes. His 10 sacks (in 2022) and 27.5 career sacks both rank No. 3 on BGSU's single-season and career lists. He earned first-team All-MAC honors in 2022 and third-team accolades in 2021.
Brooks shined in practice all week at the Senior Bowl and notched a sack in the game to go with his two tackles and creating multiple hurries.
