Last Time Out: Falcons Drop Battles to Miami (OH) and Toledo as Tsadari and Saraty Earn Doubles Team of the Week
Bowling Green lost a heartbreaking 4-3 match to Miami (OH) on Friday (March 31), nearly completing an impressive comeback against the RedHawks. After the first two doubles matches were split, No. 1 pairing Ioanna Tsadari and Eloise Saraty rallied from a 5-2 deficit to defeat Laura Rico and Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek, 7-6 (1). Tsadari rallied again in singles, beating Denysiewicz-Slowek at No. 2, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5. At No. 3, Lucy Furness also made an impressive comeback, winning 6-7 (3), 7-6 (1), 6-3 over Emilia Valentinsson. On Sunday (April 2), Tsadari and Saraty won at No. 1 once again, beating UT's Sanjana Tallamraju and Julia Kuszynski, 6-3. At No. 6 singles, Leticia Fonseca picked up BGSU's lone point of the day, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Laura Morera. For their efforts, Tsadari and Saraty were named the MAC Doubles Team of the Week for the second time this season. This marked BGSU's fifth MAC award of the season, matching the program's best total since 2010.
Opponent Outlook
Buffalo enters Friday after a previous weekend that featured the same opponents as the Falcons. While the Bulls also lost to Toledo by a score of 6-1, they came out on the winning end of a 4-3 battle with Miami. This was their second 4-3 win of the year over the Redhawks. They also defeated Northern Illinois by a score of 4-3, but fell to Ball State, 6-1. Ambre Amat has a team-best 20 singles wins, but she has not played above No. 3. Azra Deniz Comlek and Basak Abas, who have played at No. 3 or higher, share identical records of 17-8. Comlek is a two-time MAC Player of the Week, including one Doubles Team of the Week honored shared with Deanna Choo. The partners are tied for first on the team with nine doubles wins, sharing the lead with duos Gabriella Akopyan/Basak Akbas and Pia Schwarz/Ambre Amat.
