May 01, 2023 | Men's Basketball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program and head coach Todd Simon announced the signing of DaJion Humphrey on Monday (May 1). Humphrey, a 6-foot-4 guard, will join the Falcons after playing the 2022-23 season at Garden City Community College. Prior to Garden City, Humphrey played two seasons at Holy Cross. Hailing from Detroit, Mich., Humphrey averaged a team-high 17.2 points per game while shooting 45.2 percent from the field and a conference-high 43.5 percent from three during the 2022-23 campaign.Â
"DaJion is a prolific scorer at the guard position," said Simon. "His feel for the game and finding his spots on the floor will be valuable. He continues to work on his game and get better. We think he will have an impact with his ability to stretch the floor from three and bring a level of competitive fire on both ends of the floor. DaJion will be an excellent fit for our culture both on the floor and in the community"
During the 2022-23 season at Garden City, Humphrey was one of two players on the team to start all 30 games for the Broncbusters, averaging 34.5 minutes per game. Humphrey led the team in points per game (17.2) and three-point percentage (43.5%). He added a mark of 45.2 percent from the field and 78.9 percent from the free throw line. Over the course of the season, Humphrey tallied double-digit points 23 times, 13 20-point games and a season-high 35 against Hutchinson Community College. He also set the school record with seven three-pointers in a game, doing so three different times during the season. At the conclusion of the season, Humphrey was named to the Jayhawk All-Conference First Team.Â
As a sophomore at Holy Cross in 2021-22, Humphrey made five starts and appeared in 29 games. He registered double-figures six times and shot 81.8 percent (36-of-44) from the free throw line while averaging 6.2 points per game. His best game of the season came against Loyola (Md.) with a team-high 19 points, four rebounds and two assists. Over the course of the year he led the team in steals four times, blocks four times and points twice. During his freshman season in 2020-21, Humphrey played in all 16 games the team competed in, averaging 3.4 points per game. He led the team in blocks twice, assists once and steals once.Â
Humphrey played for Southfield Christian School in high school. As a senior he averaged 20.5 points per game, 6.5 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 2.6 assists. The season earned him Associated Press Division 4 Player of the Year honors as well as First Team All-State. He was also named First Team All-State as a junior by the Associated Press after averaging 17 points and seven rebounds per game. Humphrey helped lead Southfield Christian to back-to-back state championships as a sophomore and junior, including 20 points, six rebounds and five assists in the 2019 state championship game.
Humphrey is the fourth player to sign with the Falcons this offseason, joining guard P.J. Edwards from UCF, center Jason Spurgin from Southern Utah and guard Trey Thomas from Vanderbilt.Â
