Gilmore, Cox & Brynn Gardner all earn OCSA accolades
A trio of Bowling Green State University women's soccer standouts have been honored by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association for their exploits during the 2023 season. Brynn Gardner and Isabelle Gilmore were named to the All-Ohio Team, with Gilmore and Katie Cox chosen to the Academic All-Ohio Team.
Gardner and Gilmore each were named to the All-Ohio Second Team. Cox earned Academic All-Ohio First-Team honors, while Gilmore was chosen to the academic all-state second team.
Cox has been named to the Academic All-Ohio Team in each of the last three years. She landed on the second team in both 2021 and '22 before earning first-team accolades on the 2023 team.
Gilmore, a native of DeWitt, Mich. (DeWitt), played in 14 of the Falcons' 18 contests in 2023, missing four due to injury. She played every second of BGSU's first 13 matches of the season, then missed the final four games of the regular season before returning for the team's MAC Tournament contest. The junior was named to the All-MAC First Team, and also was chosen to the MAC's All-Tournament Team. A center-back, she finished second on the team in minutes played, despite missing those four contests. She has played in 53 career matches at BGSU, making 51 starts, and has helped the Orange and Brown keep 23 clean sheets in that time.
Cox, a native of Columbus, Ohio (Granville), was one of just two Falcons to start all 18 matches in 2023. She had five points on the season, including two goals and an assist. She found the back of the net in the win over Loyola Chicago in the home opener, and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in BGSU's victory at Miami. A team captain for the second-straight season, she was named to the Academic All-District® Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, earning that honor for the second-straight year. Cox also was chosen to the Academic All-MAC Team, landing on that team for the fourth consecutive season. In her BGSU career, she played in a total of 88 matches, making 77 starts, and had 24 career points on eight goals and six assists. Five of those eight goals were game-winning markers. Cox ranks third in school history in career games played and seventh in career games started.
Gardner, a native of Whitehouse, Ohio (Anthony Wayne), joined Gilmore on the All-MAC First Team in 2023. The sophomore led the Falcons in scoring, with her 16 points including a team-high six goals along with four assists. Fourteen of those 16 points came in MAC play, as she tied for sixth in the league in total points in MAC matches. Gardner deadlocked for seventh in the MAC in goals, goals per game and points per game in conference contests. She led the Falcons with three game-winning goals, including a pair of late winners in league play vs. Eastern Michigan (with 2:01 remaining) and Ball State (with just 28 seconds to go). The BSU game marked the first two-goal match of her BG career, as she scored both Falcon goals in a 2-1 win. After just two seasons, Gardner is ranked in the top 20 on the BGSU career lists for goals (12, T-16th), assists (11, T-18th) and points (35, 17th).
