Bowling Green Sets Eyes On Oxford For Meeting With Miami (OH)

Falcons, RedHawks Set For 6:30 p.m. Start Friday, 4 p.m. First Serve Saturday
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team will travel to Oxford, Ohio this weekend for a pair of matches against the Miami (OH) RedHawks. The pair will mark the first time in program history the two teams have played consecutive matches against each other in Oxford. Friday night (Nov. 1) is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start at Millett Hall followed by a 4 p.m. first serve on Saturday (Nov. 2). Both games are set to be broadcasted on ESPN+.

First Serve
Ready For The RedHawks
The Miami (OH) RedHawks head into the week with a 7-15 season record while being 1-10 in conference play. The win for Miami came on the road against Kent State on Oct. 18 with a five-set win. The RedHawks also have had two five-set losses in MAC play, coming on the road against Eastern Michigan (Oct. 5) and at home against Buffalo (Oct. 11). On the season, Miami has tallied 3-0 wins against Lamar, Gardner-Webb, Purdue Fort Wayne and Xavier while registering four-set wins against Norfolk State and Evansville to account for their seven wins this year.
BGSU v. Miami (OH), All-Time
The RedHawks hold the all-time advantage in the matchup between the two teams with a record of 51-42, but the Falcons have had the series momentum as of late, being winners of the last 10. In addition to winning 10-straight in the series, the Falcons have tallied four consecutive five-set wins over Miami. As for matches played in Oxford, BGSU has won the last three with Miami holding the all-time lead with a record of 24-16. This will also be the first time in program history that Bowling Green has played two matches in Oxford on consecutive days against the RedHawks.
Mettille Nears Rally Scoring List
Alexis Mettille has already etched her name in the record book in all blocking categories for the Rally Scoring Era, but she is now nearing another list. During her BGSU career, Mettille has landed 84 career aces, needing just one more to crack the top 10, tying Sam Fish (2007-10) for 10th on the program's Rally Scoring Era list (2001-Present). The Rally Scoring Era record for career aces was broken earlier this season by Lauryn Hovey, now with 124 in the Orange and Brown.
Falcons On The Attack
Bowling Green has been one of the best teams in the MAC this season during conference play on all sides of the attack. Against MAC opponents, the Falcons are currently first in the MAC for hitting percentage, opponent hitting percentage and blocks. On offense, BGSU is hitting an impressive .271 against MAC teams with Western Michigan ranking second with a mark of .259. Similarly, the Falcons are 14-3 this season when hitting .200 or better in a match while being 0-5 when held below .200. As for the defensive side, the Falcons are averaging a MAC-best 2.74 blocks per set, which ranks 32nd in the nation. The strong block efforts for the Orange and Brown have kept opposing teams to a conference-leading .165 hitting percentage.
Odd Set Success
So far this season, Bowling Green has been successful when winning odd numbered set. When the Falcons win the first set, the team holds a record of 10-0, however, the team is 4-8 when losing the first set. To a similar note, the Falcons are 12-0 this year when winning the third set, but have a record of 2-8 when they come up short in the third set. As for the fifth set, BGSU has played in six five-set matches this season, posting a 4-2 record in those matches.
Milestone Within Reach For Otten
Amanda Otten is nearing a career milestone with the Falcons, closing in on 1,000 career assists, entering the weekend with 910. A sophomore for BGSU, Otten tallied 257 assists as a freshman last year and this year has paced the Bowling Green attack with a team-leading 653 assists. This year, Otten has tallied 50+ assists in a match four different times, including a career-high 63 in the five-set match against Eastern Michigan on Oct. 10. For the year, Otten is averaging 8.82 assists per set.

- The Falcons enter the weekend tied for first in the Mid-American Conference standings with Central Michigan, both with 9-2 records. This weekend, Central Michigan travels to face the Ohio Bobcats.
- In the all-time series, Miami (OH) has the advantage over Bowling Green with a 51-42 record, but the Falcons have won 10-straight matches against the RedHawks, going back to Oct. 10, 2019, as well as 13 of the last 14.
- As for matches in Oxford, Miami has a slight edge with a record of 24-16. BGSU has won the last three meetings at Millett Hall with the last home win for the RedHawks being on Oct. 10, 2019.
- Alexis Mettille currently leads the MAC in hitting percentage, averaging a mark of .409 that ranks 20th in the nation. Mettille has landed 155 kills on 308 attacks with just 29 errors.
- Mettille is also nearing the top 10 for career aces during the Rally Scoring Era for the Falcons. Mettille has 84 career aces and needs 85 to enter the list.
- So far this season, Lauryn Hovey has landed 39 aces for the Falcons, the second-most in the MAC and tied for 21st in the nation. Hovey is averaging 0.48 aces per set which is also second in the conference while being 26th in the country.
- Hovey is also inside the Top 10 all-time for career aces, ranking ninth with 124. Hovey is one away from moving up to eighth on the list.
- Jessica Andrews has totaled 101 blocks for the Falcons this year. The total places Andrews third in the MAC and in a tie for 36th in the country for the stat.
- Mettille and Andrews are both moving up the Rally Scoring Era list for career solo blocks, both with 42. Mettille and Andrews are currently tied for fifth during the Rally Scoring Era. The Rally Scoring Era record is set at 80 career solo blocks by Katie Kidwell (2017-21), which is also 10th all-time.
