Falcons Fall Friday Night In Close Contest With Ohio U

Agee Posts Fourth Straight Double-Double; Hill Enters Top 10 Single-Season Scoring List
ATHENS, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team traveled to Athens, Ohio Friday night (March 1), taking on an Ohio Bobcats team on national television that entered having won three straight. The Falcons challenged the Bobcats early and often, taking a 28-28 tie into the halftime locker room. The back-and-forth affair stretched late into the game with the score tied at 57-57 with just under three minutes remaining. Back-to-back threes put Ohio in front, though, with them holding on for a 66-59 final on their home floor.
Rashaun Agee paced the Orange and Brown with his fourth consecutive double-double, finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds, both team highs in the game. Trey Thomas followed with 15, including seven at the free throw line and a pair of threes. Marcus Hill rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 and moved into the Top 10 all-time for single-season points by a Falcon with 602.

Marcus Hill rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 and moved into the Top 10 all-time for single-season points by a Falcon with 602.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons won the opening tip and tallied the first bucket with Rashaun Agee getting a second-chance layup to fall. Ohio answered with a three on the other end.
- Trey Thomas hit a three for the Falcons to move in front 5-3, but a fast break layup for the Bobcats knotted it up at 5-5 at the first media timeout with score holding to the under-12 media timeout as well.
- Out of the timeout, Thomas drew a foul behind the three-point line, hitting two. The next time down, Marcus Hill weaved his way through the defense for a layup and a 9-5 BGSU lead.
- Ohio added a layup before Jason Spurgin joined the scoring column with a pair of free throws. The BGSU defense kept the Bobcats at bay before a Hill layup pushed it to 13-7.
- The Bobcats ended the run with two free throws followed by a pair of threes to move in front 15-13 with an 8-0 run.
- DaJion Humphrey ended the run with a three just before the shot clock expired to reclaim the lead but an OU layup made it a 17-16 score at the next break.
- A layup for Ohio pushed their lead to 19-18 before a second-chance layup for Agee followed by a free throw tied it up ay 19-19.
- The run continued for the Falcons with Thomas hitting a three. A defensive steal got BGSU out in transition with Thomas finding Hill for a layup to make it a 24-19 BGSU lead and an 8-0 run to force an Ohio timeout. Hill tallied a steal on one end and a floater on the other after the timeout for a 10-0 BGSU run and 26-19 advantage.
- The two teams traded baskets with Agee slamming down BGSU's, but Ohio responded with a 7-0 run to tie the game at 28-28, taking the same score to halftime after an Ohio layup was waved off.
- Ohio recorded the first points of the second half. Spurgin put BGSU on the board with a spinning layup in the paint for a 30-30 score.
- An and-one for Ohio pushed the Bobcats to a 33-30 lead. Hill made two at the line for the Orange and Brown for a 33-32 score, but OU responded with two in the same form for a 35-32 tally.
- Sam Towns hauled in an offensive rebound and went up strong to draw contact, hitting both free throws for a 35-34 Ohio lead at the media timeout.
- The two teams continued to trade baskets. Humphrey hit a layup for BGSU followed by Ohio's answer. A Spurgin layup put the Falcons back in front, but an Ohio three made it a 40-38 OU advantage. Ohio forced a turnover and got out in transition for an and-one to make it a 6-0 Ohio run and a 43-38 lead.
- The run came to a close with Agee bringing down an offensive rebound and converting an and-one of his own for a 43-41 score at the under-12 media timeout.
- Out of the timeout, Ohio made back-to-back baskets to push their lead to 47-41 before an Agee layup cut it to 47-43.
- Thomas continued the BGSU offensive push, driving with an up-and-under layup to bring it to 47-45 before Ohio answered with two free throws.
- Agee registered another and-one opportunity to cut the score down to 49-48. On the defensive end, Da'Shawn Phillip stuffed an Ohio three with the Bobcats settling for a two and a 51-48 lead. Thomas hit three free throws for the Falcons to tie the game at 51-51 at the under-8 media timeout.
- The tie held until an Ohio layup and two free throws made it a 55-51 OU lead. Spurgin made a second-chance layup, but Ohio answered with a basket for a 57-53 score.
- A shooting foul and a technical foul gave BGSU four free throws. Thomas and Agee both hit two for a 57-57 tie.
- The Bobcats responded with a three to reclaim the lead at 60-57 before another three made it a 63-57 score with 30.1 seconds left.
- Out of the timeout, Hill got a layup to fall with BGSU using another timeout trailing 63-59. Down the stretch, Ohio made three free throws for the 66-59 final.

- As a team, the Falcons shot a season-best 90% (18-of-20) from the free throw line. The performance is the first time BGSU has shot 90% or better from the line since hitting a mark of 91.7% (22-of-24) against Miami (OH) last season on Jan. 22, 2023.
- Marcus Hill registered 12 points for the Falcons, bringing his season total to 602 points. With 602, Hill is now inside the Top 10 all-time for points in a single season, claiming sole possession of eighth. During the game, Hill passed Al Bianchi and Keith Taylor for ninth and Walt Piatkowski for eighth.
- Rashaun Agee recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, both team-highs. This marks the fourth consecutive double-double for Agee. He's the first Falcon with four straight double-doubles since Damajeo Wiggins during the 2018-19 campaign.
- Trey Thomas tallied 15 points for the Falcons with half coming at the line. Thomas went 7-of-8 at the charity stripe, setting new career-highs in both attempts and makes.
- Da'Shawn Phillip recorded BGSU's lone block in the game. He now has three blocks on the season and two in the last three games.
