March 04, 2024 | Men's Basketball
BGSU, WMU Scheduled For 7 p.m. Tip In Kalamazoo
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will play their final road game of the regular season on Tuesday (March 5), taking on the Western Michigan Broncos in Kalamazoo, Mich. The Falcons and Broncos are scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip at University Arena in Read Fieldhouse. The game is set to be aired on ESPN+ with a radio stream available through WFRO Eagle 99.Â
Opening Tip
The Falcons and Broncos will be playing for the 128th time in program history and second time this season. Bowling Green won the first matchup this season, 84-79, on Jan. 20 in Bowling Green. Bowling Green holds the all-time advantage with a record of 76-51, but Western Michigan has the slight edge when hosting the series at 32-31. The Falcons can clinch a spot in the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2020-21 with one of the following; a win, a Ball State loss, a Central Michigan loss or a Toledo win on Tuesday.Â
A Bowling Green Win Would…
Four Roads To ClevelandÂ
The Falcons are currently attempting to clinch a spot in the MAC Tournament for the first time since the 2020-21 season. The Falcons have four different avenues to a spot in the tournament and need just one of the following to happen; a Bowling Green win, a Ball State loss, a Central Michigan loss or a Toledo win. Any of the outcomes would guarantee the Falcons the tiebreaker over Ball State in the MAC Standings.Â
Scouting The BroncosÂ
Since the last meeting with BGSU, Western Michigan has posted a record of 4-7 and have won three of their last four, including an overtime buzzer-beater over Ball State. Their lone loss in the last three games was a 70-67 final against Eastern Michigan. The stretch has moved the Broncos into a tie for sixth in the MAC Standings with the Falcons and Kent State. WMU is led by sophomore guard Seth Hubbard, averaging 14.4 points per game and the only Bronco averaging double-digit points this season.Â
BGSU v. Western Michigan, A HistoryÂ
The matchup between BGSU and WMU will mark the 128th all-time and the second this season. Bowling Green holds the all-time advantage, 76-51, while Western Michigan has the slight edge when hosting at 32-31. The two teams faced earlier this season on Jan. 20 with the Falcons winning 84-79 inside the Stroh Center. For the Orange and Brown, both Marcus Hill and Rashaun Agee posted double-doubles in the game. Hill finished with 28 points and 11 rebounds while Agee registered 12 points and 14 rebounds.Â
Hill Enters Top 10 All-TimeÂ
Marcus Hill has recorded 602 points for the Falcons so far this season, putting him inside the Top 10 all-time for points in a single season by a BGSU player. Hill is currently eighth all-time after passing Walt Piatkowski (601), Al Bianchi (600) and Keith Taylor (600) to enter the list. Entering the game against Western Michigan, Hill needs three points to pass Martin Samarco (604) for seventh, 18 to pass Justin Turner (619) for sixth and 23 to pass Tommy Harris (624) for fifth all-time.Â
Agee Nearing Record Book NumbersÂ
Rashaun Agee is nearing the Top 10 in the record book for single-season rebounds. So far this season, Agee has tallied 282 rebounds for the Falcons and needs 17 more to enter the record book. He needs to reach 299 to break into the Top 10 all-time for rebounds in a single-season, trailing Rex Leach's 1956-57 campaign. This year, Agee has 15 double-doubles, tied for 11th in the nation. His 9.7 rebounds per game are also 25th in the country and his 3.72 offensive rebounds are tied for 10th and lead the MAC.
Scoring ThresholdsÂ
The 70-point mark has been an indicator for the Falcons so far this season on offense. When BGSU scores 70+ in a game this year they hold a record of 16-3. However, when they fall short of 70 points offensively the Falcons are 1-9. On defense, when the Falcons hold opponents under 80 points they are 16-6, but they are 1-6 when giving up 80 or more points in a game.
