Falcons Head To Houghton For First Round Of CCHA Playoffs

No. 3 Michigan Tech hosts No. 6 Bowling Green for best-of-three series CCHA first round series
HOUGHTON, Mich.- The Bowling Green Falcons (13-20-1, 11-12-1 CCHA) open the CCHA Mason Cup Playoffs on the road against the Michigan Tech Huskies (15-14-6, 12-10-2 CCHA). The best-of-three series starts on Friday, March 8 at 7:07 p.m. ET followed by game two on Saturday, March 9 at 6:07 p.m. ET. If necessary, the third game will be played at 5:07 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 5. All games to played at MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton, Michigan.

Michigan Tech took the ice last weekend (Mar. 1-2) splitting the weekend with the St.Thomas Tommies. The Tommies took the first game 2-0 and the Huskies responded the next night with a 6-0 win. MTU finished the regular season tied for second place with 39 conference points.Â
The Huskies are lead by Issac Gordon with 30 points on the season (16g, 14a). Ryland Mosley is close behind with 26 points (14g, 12a). Goaltender Blake Pietila records a .921 save percentage and a 2.29 goals against average through 32 games played this season.Â

The all-time series between the Falcons and Huskies is 23-25-5 and in favor of MTU. The two CCHA members last met February 23-24 in Bowling Green where the Huskies swept the series. Michigan Tech recorded a 7-0 win on Friday night and clinched the sweep on Saturday with a 3-1 win in Slater Family Ice Arena.Â
The two met earlier in the season in Houghton, Michigan where they split. The Falcons took the first game on December 1 in a 2-1 win in overtime, where Owen Ozar called game. The Huskies took the second game 3-2. The meeting goes all the way back to 1972, the Huskies took both games.Â
Up NextÂ
With a series win, the Falcons will advance to the CCHA Semifinals. The single elimination semifinal games will be hosted by the two highest remaining CCHA seeds on Saturday, March 16.Â
