Bonnell Adds Hire to Falcon Tennis
June 12, 2024 | Women's Tennis
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's tennis program and head coach Mike Bonnell has announced the addition of transfer Ellie Hire. Hire will join the Falcons for the 2024-25 season as a senior.
"We are excited to add Ellie to our team this fall. She had a pretty storied high school career and I like that she is coming back home to finish her collegiate career. Our roster is going to be extremely young this year and Ellie will be able to share her college tennis experiences with the group," said Bonnell. "After recovering from injury for the past year she is more than ready to get back after it. She is a gritty fighter that uses her smarts and athleticism to frustrate opponents. Her passion for the game has impressed me and she is going to thrive in an atmosphere with like-minded teammates. Ellie is another quality addition that is going to help lead this program to great things."
Hire spent the last two seasons at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee and spent her freshman year at Ava Maria University in Florida. Hire is from Perrysburg, Ohio and graduated from Toledo Central Catholic High School in 2021.
Before her collegiate career, Hire was a three sport athlete at Toledo Central Catholic High School. Hire played Tennis, Basketball and Track earning letters in all sports.
Hire is the daughter of David and Kathleen Hire and has one brother, Justin. Hire plans to major in graphic design.
"I chose to attend BGSU because of the strong Graphic Design program and the awesome opportunity to play for a hometown school," said Hire.
