Both Falcon Soccer Teams Earn United Soccer Coaches Academic Honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BGSU Strategic Communications) – The Bowling Green State University men's and women's soccer programs each have earned a national academic honor for their exemplary performances in the classroom in 2023-24. Both teams have received the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, the USC office announced Thursday (Aug. 1).
The USC Team Academic Award is given to soccer programs that have achieved a minimum team grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Each BGSU team had a cumulative GPA well above 3.0 for the 2023-24 academic year.
The men's soccer Falcons of head coach Eric Nichols had a team GPA of 3.40 in the 2023-24 academic year. Nichols' team was recognized for the 12th time in the last 15 seasons, and the men's soccer Falcons made the list for the 14th time overall.
The women's soccer program had a team GPA of 3.73 in 2023-24, earning the award for the second-straight season and the 11th time overall. Jimmy.Walker coached the team during the fall of 2023, with Chris Fox taking over in December.
A total of 405 college soccer teams (168 men, 237 women) across all divisions earned the Team Academic Award. BGSU was one of 102 schools at all levels who had both their men's and women's programs among the recipients.
College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2023-24 academic year.

The women's soccer Falcons are in action on Sunday (Aug. 4), hosting Goshen in a 1:00 p.m. scrimmage at Cochrane Stadium. Then, both teams are in action the following weekend, with the men's soccer team hosting Robert Morris in a scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 9, and the women hosting Purdue the following afternoon (Aug. 10). Both teams will open the regular season at home, with the women meeting Detroit Mercy on Aug. 15 and the men facing Wright State on Aug. 23
