BGSU Tops Windsor in Final Exhibition Matchup
October 17, 2025 | Ice Hockey
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team battled the University of Windsor in its final exhibition game of the season on Friday night, Oct. 17, and were victorious, topping the Lancers by a score of 6-3. Leading the way for the Falcons was defenseman Ivan Korodiuk, who netted a goal for himself and provided two assists in the contest. Although the game was an exhibition, it had a regular season feel to it. Over 3,000 fans packed the Slater Family Ice Arena and both teams provided a tough, physical battle resulting in well over 15 minutes in the penalty box for each team respectively.Â
How it happened
The Falcons jumped out to a lead with 13:38 on the clock through Jaden Grant, who jumped on a loose rebound off of a shot from Dalton Norris. Windsor would respond on the power play with 3:18 left in the first, as Brady Hinz cashed in after a Brayden Crampton took a tripping penalty. The Falcons would then reclaim their lead through Noah Morneau, who deflected a shot from Ivan Korodiuk past the goaltender, reclaiming the Falcons lead heading into the first intermission.
The Falcons would then double their advantage early in the second period, as Brayden Crampton's shot from the blue line found its way past the Windsor goaltender just 38 seconds into the second period. The Lancers would cut the deficit to one shortly after, as a long stretch pass found Colton Smith, who converted on the break away to make the score 3-2 just one minute into the second period. Jackson Niedermayer would then restore the Falcons two goal advantage as he latched on to a pass from Breck McKinley in the slot and beat the goaltender to make the score 4-2.Â
Two goals in the first six minutes of the third, coming first from freshman Dominik Rymon, followed by Ivan Korodiuk, would put the game out of reach for the Lancers. Tyler Palmer started the game in goal for the Falcons, making 11 saves in the contest. Jacob Steinman entered the game around the halfway mark of the second period, adding another 12 saves and posting a .923 save percentage.Â
Looking Ahead
The Falcons will open up their conference schedule next weekend, as they travel to Lake Superior State for their opening series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:07 pm on both Friday and Saturday in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Both of those matchups will be available on Midco Sports Plus. Following their opening series with the Lakers, the Falcons will return home for their conference home opener, as they take on the Beavers of Bemidji State on Oct. 31.Â
