THE STARTING XI
I – The Falcons are 4-6-2 on the season after a 1-0 loss at Cleveland State Tuesday night (Oct. 7). BGSU split a pair of matches last week, including a 2-0 home win over Northern Kentucky (Sept. 30). Senior Trace Terry scored the first goal on a penalty kick, then had an assist on junior Bennett Painter's second-half goal vs. the Norse. Then, however, the Falcons fell, 4-1, at Belmont on Friday (Oct. 3).
II – Redshirt sophomore Jason Ball made his collegiate debut in the NKU match, and had five saves en route to his first clean sheet. Ball also played the Belmont and CSU contests. He has a 1.67 goals-against average and 12 saves in the three matches.
III – BGSU has suffered back-to-back losses for the first time since last October. The Falcons bounced back from the 2024 setbacks with a resounding 3-0 victory over #14 Western Michigan, snapping the Broncos' 37-match unbeaten streak.
IV – Terry leads the Falcons with six goals and 13 points this season. Painter has four goals, a team-leading three assists and 11 points. Junior Saul Rios scored his first collegiate goal in the Belmont match, and he and senior Andrew Shaffer (two assists) each have two points on the year.
V – Terry has moved into a tie for 11th place on the BGSU career goals list, and he is now in sole possession of 11th in career points. The striker has 24 goals and 60 points. Ten of his goals have been game winners, placing him fourth on that Falcon chart. Painter has scored 49 points in 44 career matches. He currently has 20 career goals to tie for 17th on that BG chart, and the junior is 25th in career points.
VI – Junior goalkeeper Enzo Gil started each of BGSU's first nine matches of the season in goal, and has 50 saves, a goals-against average of 1.22 and two clean sheets. Gill, a two-time MVC Defensive Player of the Week this season, is fifth in the nation in saves per game (5.66), eighth in total saves and 24th in save percentage (.820).
VII – Head coach Eric Nichols and his staff – assistant coaches Gonzalo Carranza, Jack Bennett and Ryan James – have a total of 12 returning student-athletes on the 2025 roster. That group includes six starters from a year ago. A whopping 15 newcomers joined the Falcons in 2025.
VIII – BGSU finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 12-6-2, and the Falcons went 4-3-1 in their second season in the MVC, tying for third place in the then nine-team league. The Orange and Brown picked up wins over UIC and Drake to advance to the championship match of the MVC Tournament, before falling in overtime to Evansville.
IX – Four of the top-six point-scorers from the 2024 club returned. The returnees include a pair of forwards in Painter (13 goals, 30 points) and Terry (12 goals, 29 points) who combined for a whopping 25 goals and 59 points last fall. The duo combined for nine GWG. Terry was named to the All-MVC First Team, and Painter earned all-league second-team honors.
X – Terry was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America Second Team last season, and also was chosen to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Best XI Third Team. Terry was named to the TDS Preseason Best XI Third Team in 2025.
XI – Last December, Terry was chosen by Seattle Sounders FC in the third round of the MLS SuperDraft. He is the first player in program history to return to the Falcons after being drafted, and is the fifth player in history (and the first since 1999) to come back for another season after being named an All-American.

THE BRAVES / THE SERIES
• Bradley has an overall record of 2-4-5 this season, and the Braves are 0-1-1 in MVC play. Bradley's league contests to date include a 1-1 draw vs. UIC (Sept. 27) and a 2-1 loss at Northern Illinois (Oct. 4). Most recently, the Braves battled DePaul to a 2-2 tie Tuesday night (Oct. 7). BU is 2-0-3 at home and 0-4-2 on the road this season. Mitch Coughlon leads the team with five goals and 10 points, while thre of his teammates have six points apiece. in goal, Drew Berry has played every second this season, and has a league-leading 52 saves, three clean sheets and a goals-against average of 1.45. Last season, head coach Tim Regan's club went 4-8-4 overall and 1-5-2 in the MVC.
• The Falcons and Bradley are tied, 2-2-0, in the all-time series, and BGSU has won the last two meetings. The Braves picked up a pair of wins in back-to-back years in the late 1990s, and the teams did not meet for nearly a quarter century before the Falcons joined the MVC. Two years ago (Sept. 23, 2023), the Falcons posted a 3-1 victory at Cochrane Stadium, with Trace Terry scoring a pair of goals. Last season (Sept. 21, 2024), Terry again had a brace as BG picked up a 2-1 win in Peoria. The Falcons are 1-1-0 in home games and 1-1-0 in road meetings with the Braves through the years.
