Opening Tip
Bowling Green and Kansas State will meet for the first time in program history, marking the 333rd different opponent all-time for BGSU. Both the Falcons and Wildcats enter with 5-2 records. However, Bowling Green enters with a two-game winning streak while Kansas State has a two-game losing streak. Under Coach Simon, the Falcons have a 7-2 record all-time in the month of December for a .778 winning percentage, his winningest month at the helm of the Orange and Brown. The game against Kansas State will wrap up a three-game road trip for the Falcons, returning home for their next three as well as five of their next six.Â
A Bowling Green Win Would…
Strong Start To The Season
The Falcons are off to a 5-2 record this season, the best start to a season for BGSU since starting the 2020-21 season with a 9-2 record. With all seven games played in November, the .714 winning percentage is the best in the month of November for BGSU since going 6-2 (.750) during the 2019-20 season. In 2020-21, BGSU went 2-1 (.667) in the shortened November schedule due to COVID, the season that went on to the 9-2 start.
Scouting The Wildcats
Like the Falcons, Kansas State heads into Monday's game with a 5-2 record on the season. Their only losses have been to Nebraska (86-85) and Indiana (86-69). Both those have come in their last two games after a 5-0 start to the season. On an individual level, Kansas State is led by PJ Haggerty who leads the nation in scoring, averaging 26.3 points per game. The Wildcats are also led by a familiar face. Nate Johnson, a transfer from Akron, leads KSU in rebounds, averaging 6.0 per game. Kansas State also rosters former Falcon Marcus Johnson, but he has yet to appear in a game this season.Â
BGSU vs. Kansas State, All-Time
The Falcons and Wildcats will be meeting for the first time in program history, marking the sixth new opponent for BGSU this season. Previously the Falcons added Texas State, Bethany College, Le Moyne, Bucknell and VMI as new opponents in program history. Kansas State will be the 333rd different opponent in program history. Of the previous 332 opponents, the Falcons have tallied wins against 272 unique teams.Â
Double-Double For Towns
In the game against VMI, Sam Towns logged the first double-double by a Falcon this year, finishing with 12 points and 18 rebounds. Of his 18 rebounds, 15 came in the first half while finishing with 10 offensive rebounds. Towns is the first Falcon with 15+ rebounds in a game since March 14, 2024 and his 18 rebounds are the most by a Falcon since Daeqwon Plowden had 18 against Miami (OH) on March 2, 2021. Towns is one of just 11 players in the nation with 18+ rebounds in a game this season and the only from the MAC.Â
Dominating On Defense
Against VMI, the Falcons held the Keydets to 20-percent shooting with just 10 made field goals, both believed to be program records. BGSU also held VMI under 50 points with 48, their second opponent this season held below the mark after keeping Texas State to 48 points as well. In three seasons under Coach Simon, the Falcons have held multiple opponents under 50 in the same season twice. In 2023-24, BGSU held Chicago State to 41 points and Ohio Dominican to 49. For the season, the Falcons are holding opponents to 65.7 points per game, which leads the MAC and is tied for 48th in the nation.Â
Creating Chaos
The Falcons have established themselves as one of the best teams in the nation at forcing turnovers. This season, the Falcons are averaging 13.4 steals per game as well as 20.4 turnovers per game. Both marks lead the conference while the steals mark is first in the nation and the turnovers forced is second behind only Florida State (21.2). This year, BGSU has had 11+ steals in five of six games and 14+ turnovers forced in all six.Â
Campbell Stealing The Show
Through the first six games of the season, Javontae Campbell has firmly placed himself among the best thieves in college basketball. Campbell has already amassed 28 steals for the Orange and Brown, averaging 4.0 steals per game, which is tied for first in the nation. Last year, Campbell totaled 90 steals for the Falcons, breaking the program's single-season record. Now, he's on pace for 124 this year, which would give him 214 as a Falcon. The current program record for career steals is 226, held by Anthony Stacey. For those looking to follow Campbell's projections, Falcon Sports Media Network's Tyler Kavalecz is doing a game-by-game update on his Twitter/X page (@TKavaleczSports).Â
