One Of Four In The Nation
Bowling Green is currently one of only four teams in the country to rank in the top 35 nationally for both scoring offense and scoring defense. BGSU is averaging 88.3 points per game while holding opponents to 65.8 points per game, both ranking 33rd in the nation. The Falcons are joined by Iowa State (90.5 offense, 63.3 defense), McNeese (88.9, 65.4) and Gonzaga (91.9, 65.9) as teams that rank inside the top 35 for both.
Scouting The Cougars
Chicago State is coming off a win over Loyola Chicago on Sunday (Dec. 14), topping the Ramblers in an 84-75 final. The win marked their second of the season, but both have come in their last three games. The first win of the season for the Cougars was on Dec. 1, topping Saint Xavier, 85-62, at home for their Education Day Game. While being 2-9, they've had notable losses against tough opponents with DePaul, Saint Louis, Butler, Minnesota and Iowa all featured on their schedule in addition to UIC, Purdue Fort Wayne, Youngstown State and Illinois State.
BGSU vs. Chicago State, All-Time
The Falcons and Cougars will be meeting for the fifth time in program history with all four previous meetings belonging to Bowling Green. The most recent came two seasons ago and marked the beginning of the Coach Simon Era at BGSU. The Falcons captured a 70-41 victory in the game. The first meeting, however, was in 1970 with the Falcons claiming a 107-70 final. All five games played between the two have been hosted by Bowling Green.
Campbell Takes Over Nation's Lead
Javontae Campbell complied nine steals over the last two games for the Falcons, bringing his total to 37. Through 10 games, Campbell is averaging a nation-leading 3.7 steals per game while his 37 total are tied for second. Campbell is currently on pace for 114 steals, which would shatter not only his own single-season record for the Falcons of 90 last season, but also the MAC record, set at 103 by Ball State's Bonzi Wells in 1997-98. For those looking to follow Campbell's projections, Falcon Sports Media Network's Tyler Kavalecz is doing a game-by-game update on his Twitter/X page (@TKavaleczSports).
20-Point Players
Against Aquinas, both Aiden Goins (24) and Justin Thomas (20) registered 20-point games, the first of the season for each. With the two hitting the mark, the Falcons have now had six different players log a 20-point game this season, which is tied for the most in the nation with six other teams. The Falcons are joined in the feat by Arizona, Cal St. Fullerton, Illinois, IU Indy, LMU (CA) and Portland. For BGSU, Goins and Thomas are joined by Javontae Campbell with four 20-point games as well as one from each of Josiah Shackelford, Sam Towns and Mayar Wol.
Simon's Strong Starts To The Season
Through the first 10 games this season, the Falcons hold a 7-3 record. This marks the second time in head coach Todd Simon's first three seasons that the Falcons have been 7-3 or better through the first 10 games, holding the same standing in 2023-24. Simon is just one of three coaches in program history to begin 7-3 or better in two of his first three seasons at BGSU. Michael Huger did so, beginning 7-3 in both 2015-16 and 2017-18, his first and third seasons. Harold Anderson completes the list, starting 10-0 in his first season (1942-43), 9-1 in his second season (1943-44) and 10-0 in his third season (1944-45).
The 70-Point Threshold
This season, defense has been a key for the Falcons in terms of outcomes. When Bowling Green has been able to hold teams below 70 points in a game, the Falcons are 7-0 this season. However, when the opponent tallies 80 or more points in a game, BGSU is 0-3. So far this year, no BGSU opponent has finished with a score in the range of 70-79 points.
Staying In Town
Sam Towns is in a small group for players in the nation. Towns is one of just seven players in the nation that are in their sixth season of college basketball along with their fourth at the same school. Towns is currently in his fourth season with BGSU after beginning at Ohio for two seasons. He's joined on the list by Iowa State's Nate Heise, North Alabama's Dallas Howell, Oklahoma's Nigel Pack, Tarleton State's Freddy Hicks, Texas' Tramon Mark and USC's Terrance Williams II.

- Keep Bowling Green undefeated all-time against Chicago State with a 5-0 record.
- Push BGSU to 8-3 on the season, the second time with that record through 11 games during Coach Simon's three-year tenure with the Falcons (2023-24).

- Give the Falcons a 3-1 record during the month of December this season with three games left to play in the calendar year.
