BGSU-TULSA – HOW IT HAPPENED
• Faith Russell drew a walk against BGSU starter Morgan Beckham to begin the Tulsa half of the first inning. But, Russell was cut down attempting to steal second, and Beckham then got a strikeout and a popup to short.
• Tulsa starter Brinly Maples retired the first five batters she faced before Peyton Steffes drew a two-out walk in the top of the second.
• Maci Cole was hit by a pitch with two outs in the bottom of the inning, and she came around to score on a single by Danielle Burns to give the Golden Hurricane the lead. Beckham struck out Elle Rouse to end the inning.
• In the third, however, Tulsa batted around and scored six times. Russell walked to put a runner aboard with one out, and Celeste Wood followed with a two-run homer. Annika Dill singled, and Claira Skaggs greeted BG reliever Mackenzie Krafcik with an RBI double. Several batters later, Rouse was hit by a pitch to force home a run, and Tallulah Pascucci followed with a two-run single to give Tulsa a 7-0 lead.
• Maples faced the minimum through three innings, before Hutter led off the Falcon fourth with a single on the first pitch. A fielder's choice, though, produced the first out, and a strikeout and another infield grounder ended the inning.
• Taylor Behrendt singled to begin the fifth inning, and Hanna Massaro drew a two-out walk to put runners at first and second. But, Maples got an inning-ending strikeout to keep the Falcons off of the scoreboard.
• Krafcik worked a 1-2-3 fifth inning, with a pair of infield grounders sandwiched around a strikeout. She retired six-straight hitters before a two-out single by Skaggs in the sixth, and bounced back to get Amber Turner to pop up for the third out.
• But, the Falcons were unable to mount a comeback. Hannah Hunt singled with two outs in the sixth, and BG got a pair of hits in the seventh. Behrendt doubled to left-center to begin the seventh, and a Steffes single put runners at the corners. But, a grounder to the circle produced the first out, and Hanna Massaro's liner was caught by the shortstop. Then, Maples got a game-ending strikeout.
