Bowling Green Opens Weekend With 3-1 Victory Over Lake Superior State
January 16, 2026 | Ice Hockey
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons (12-5-4, 9-3-3 CCHA) scored two goals in the third period to pull away from the Lake Superior State Lakers (8-14-1, 5-10-0 CCHA) on Friday night, earning a 3-1 win inside Slater Family Ice Arena.
Entering the final frame tied, 1-1, Brett Pfoh found an angle on Rorke Applebee from near the boards just outside the faceoff circle in BGSU's offensive zone to give the Falcons the lead for good, 1:31 into the third period. With 15 seconds remaining, Tyler Hotson was taken down from behind on an empty-net opportunity and was awarded a goal to seal the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• BGSU started quickly when Quinn Emerson found the back of the net just 53 seconds into the game. Tyler Hotson found Ben Doran on the right crease, who slid a pass across the cage to Emerson for the finish.
• Lake Superior State tied the game at 8:38 of the second period when Adam Barone scored in transition off assists from Calem Mangone and John Herrington.
• Bowling Green regained the lead 1:31 into the third period. Brayden Crampton picked up a cleared puck from LSSU and pushed the transition, finding a streaking Brett Pfoh, who fired from just outside the attacking-zone faceoff circle along the boards.
• Tyler Hotson was credited with a goal after being taken down from behind on an empty-net chance with 15 seconds left. Dalton Norris earned the assist.

FROM THE LOCKER ROOM
"To beat these guys, especially with their goaltender, you have to score on second and third opportunities. We scored that one short side from Brett Pfoh — that's probably a little fortunate, a bit of puck luck, because that doesn't go in too often on him. I think he's saved about 22 to 25 expected goals that should be in his net this year. Our guys played hard and battled throughout. We had some big blocked shots down the stretch, and it was great to see that heads-up play by Dalton [Norris] off the glass to stretch out Tyler Hotson. He tried to cut back, and we forced that tough goal/no-go — or goal/no-shot — situation, which was a key moment." — Dennis Williams, BGSU Ice Hockey Head Coach
