MIAMI, Fla. — The Bowling Green women's swim and dive team opened the new year with a pair of road victories Saturday, topping Barry University, 158-21, and Simon Fraser, 133.5-52.5, to remain unbeaten at 12-0 overall and 2-0 in dual meets.
Bowling Green set the tone early by taking the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. The A relay of Emily McNicol, Lauren Jablonski, Grace Bodrock and Annie Berrow touched first in 1:48.35, followed closely by the Falcons' B squad.
The Falcons controlled much of the meet, highlighted by a 1-2-3 sweep in the 50 freestyle from Samia Becdach (24.10), Sierra Newton (24.48) and Berrow (25.07). Bowling Green also swept the podium in the 200 individual medley behind Bridget Kurtzweil (2:11.96), Alex Johnson (2:19.57) and Hanna Ehrman (2:19.65).
Bodrock won the 100 butterfly in 58.25, while Alyse Sorg finished second. Becdach (52.90) and Newton (53.98) went 1-2 in the 100 freestyle, and McNicol claimed the 100 backstroke in 58.38. Caroline Toledo added a runner-up finish in both the 200 freestyle (1:58.19) and the 500 freestyle (5:13.40).
Maddie Bond established another Falcon sweep by winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.45, edging out Bodrock and Kurtzweil. Bowling Green closed the meet with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay, as the quartet of Becdach, Berrow, Corine Rieskamp and Newton posted a 1:38.65.
"It's great for our team to be reunited after the holidays," head coach Tanner Barton said. "The ladies and I really enjoyed being together and racing outside. We look forward to these training sessions in Florida as we continue to push forward and better ourselves."
Bowling Green will travel to Athens on Jan. 16 for a dual meet at Ohio.
