Javontae Campbell Named MAC Player Of The Week

Campbell’s 47 Points At UMass Broke Program’s Road Scoring Record
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the men's basketball MAC Player of the Week Monday afternoon (Jan. 5), naming Bowling Green senior guard Javontae Campbell this week's recipient. The honor is the fifth weekly recognition of Campbell's BGSU career and third of the season after being named on Nov. 10 and Dec. 8. He earned the recognition twice last season, coming on Dec. 30 and March 3.
Campbell erupted for the Falcons, leading BGSU to an overtime victory against UMass while playing all 45 minutes of action. Campbell tallied 47 points in the game, the most by a MAC player since 2017-18, the most points by a Falcon on the road in program history, the most overall by a Falcon since 1964 and tied for the fifth-most overall in program history. Ending the first half and into the second half, Campbell scored 16 straight points for the Falcons. Campbell also went 20-for-27 from the line in the game, tying the program record for free throw attempts in a game while his 20 made game two shy. Of his 20, three came as the tying points to force overtime in the contest. On top of his 47 points, Campbell led the team in assists as well with eight while adding six rebounds to fill out his stat line. As for the game against Miami (OH), Campbell posted 16 points for the Falcons to go along with four assists, four rebounds, three steals and a block.

The Falcons will continue their road trip on Tuesday (Jan. 6), heading to Kent State for a 7 p.m. tip against the Golden Flashes. From there, Bowling Green will return home to host Akron on Jan. 9 for a nationally televised game in the Stroh Center, scheduled for an 8 p.m. start.
