Falcons Draw Arkansas State For Feb. 7 MAC-Sun Belt Challenge Contest

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference and Sun Belt Conference announced the February slate of games for this year's MAC-SBC Challenge Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 6). With the announcement, the Bowling Green State University men's basketball program will be traveling to take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Feb. 7, currently set for a 3 p.m. EST, 2 p.m. CT tip.

The MAC-SBC Challenge is a scheduling alliance in the sports of men's and women's basketball that began during the 2023-24 season. The second MAC-SBC Challenge contest for each team are matchups based on real-time NET rankings, projected season finish and previous cross-conference contests.

The game marks the sixth meeting between BGSU and Arkansas State all-time and the second as part of the MAC-SBC Challenge after meeting in 2023-24. The Falcons won that contest with an 81-75 win. Overall, Bowling Green leads the series with a 3-2 record, but all three wins have come in Bowling Green. The only meeting between the two in Jonesboro, Ark. was on Nov. 16, 2006 with Arkansas State registering a 64-54 win.

As for the MAC-SBC Challenge, the Falcons won their first meeting earlier this season, topping Texas State with an 83-48 final on Nov. 3 in the season opener. Overall, the Falcons have a 3-2 record in the MAC-SBC Challenge with all three wins coming at home.

Arkansas State is currently 10-5 on the season while being 2-1 within the Sun Belt. In conference play, they've tallied wins over Texas State and Southern Miss while falling to James Madison. As for their first MAC-SBC Challenge game, the Red Wolves topped Ohio, 89-85, in their season opener. In total, ASU holds a 3-2 record in the MAC-SBC Challenge while being 2-0 at home.

Up Next
The Falcons will continue their road trip on Tuesday (Jan. 6), heading to Kent State for a 7 p.m. tip against the Golden Flashes. From there, Bowling Green will return home to host Akron on Jan. 9 for a nationally televised game in the Stroh Center, scheduled for an 8 p.m. start.
